Alok Gupta
Professor and Chair of Information and Decision Sciences
Carlson School of Management, University of Minnesota

Alok Gupta is a Professor and Chair of Information and Decision Sciences at the Carlson School of Management, University of Minnesota.  He also serves on the Accenture Management Developmental Academy's academic board and is helping us make a bridge to the MIS Research Center at the Carlson School at UMN. He received his PhD in Management Science and Information from the University of Texas, Austin.

He was an Assistant Professor at Department of OPIM, University of Connecticut from 1996 to 2001. His research has been published in various information systems, economics, and computer science journals such as ISR, CACM, JMIS, Journal of Economic Dynamics and Control, Computational Economics, Decision Support Systems, IEEE Internet Computing, International Journal of Flexible Manufacturing Systems, Information Technology Management, and Journal of Organizational Computer and Electronic Commerce. In addition, his articles have been published in several leading books in the area of economics of electronic commerce.

He was awarded a prestigious NSF CAREER Award for his research on dynamic pricing mechanisms on the internet. From 1999-2001, he served as co-director of Treibick Electronic Commerce Initiative (TECI), an endowed research initiative at Department of OPIM, University of Connecticut. He is also an affiliate of the Center for Research in Electronic Commerce (CREC) at the University of Texas at Austin. He serves on the editorial boards of DSS and Brazilian Electronic Journal of Economics. He teaches courses in the areas of computer networking, electronic commerce, decision support, IT infrastructure, and computer programming at the undergraduate, MBA and PhD levels.

V Sambamurthy
Professor of Information Technology
Eli Broad College of Business, Michigan State University

Sambamurthy (PhD, University of Minnesota, 1989) is the Eli Broad Professor of Information Technology and Executive Director of the Center for Leadership of the Digital Enterprise at the Eli Broad Graduate School of Management at Michigan State University.  He has previously served on the faculties of the business schools at The University of Maryland and The Florida State University.  He has expertise in how firms successfully leverage information technologies in their business strategies, products, services, and organisational processes. 

He has researched issues related to the impacts of CIO and top management team characteristics on firms’ success with IT assimilation, the impacts of institutional forces on organisational IT assimilation, and the capabilities associated with strategic leverage of IT. His current research interest is on the role of information technology management as a digital options platform and an enabler of strategic agility.  Most of his work has been funded by the Financial Executives Research Foundation, the Advanced Practices Council (APC), and the National Science Foundation.  His work has been published in journals such as MIS Quarterly, Information Systems Research, Management Science, Organization Science, Decision Sciences, and the IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management.  He is currently the Editor-in-Chief of Information Systems Research and is on the editorial board of Management Science

He has previously served as Senior Editor for MIS Quarterly, Department Editor for IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management, and Americas Editor for the Journal of Strategic Information Systems.  In addition, he has served on the editorial boards of Information Systems Research, Organization Science, and MIS Quarterly Executive. Sambamurthy has previously served as Conference Co-Chair for ICIS 2004 in Washington DC.  He also serves as the Academic Co-Chair of the Business Technology Management Institute, a non-profit entity dedicated to development and dissemination of knowledge related to the strategic management and alignment of information technologies in organisations.

Sambamurthy teaches a variety of courses related to the integration of information technology and corporate strategy in the full-time MBA, Executive MBA, and doctoral programs.  He has won teaching awards for his performance.  He has been actively involved in executive education on current topics such as the shaping of digital transformations, strategic management of IT, and the management of IT innovation in firms.  He has worked with several Fortune 500 firms including 3M, AstraZennecca, General Dynamics, Owens Corning, Intel, Bell Atlantic, Freddie Mac, and BellSouth.
