CITNE faculty member addresses ISB Alumni Meet at Bangalore and Chennai
ISB recently organised its alumni meet at Bangalore and Chennai on August 4 and August 5 respectively. The meets followed the usual format of being addressed by a faculty member of ISB. This time CITNE’s Executive Director and Associate Professor of Information Technology, Professor Ravi Bapna addressed the gathering. He spoke on Multi-sourcing - a hot topic in the IT scenario.
Multi-sourcing refers to the act of firms selecting multiple IT and business services providers to meet their strategic objectives instead of a single provider. Increasingly, large corporations looking to outsource their IT needs are moving away from crafting mega deals with a single vendor and turning towards a multi-vendor approach. Putting forward his thoughts, Professor Bapna said that, at a high level, the key issue from the client side is to determine how to optimally construct a supplier portfolio that is aligned with the firm's mission and strategy, whereas, from the service provider perspective it appears that the key challenge is how to establish a co-opetition (compete and cooperate simultaneously with fellow vendors) mindset to deliver super-modular benefits to the clients.
CITNE had also conducted a seminar on June 29, 2007 on the trends and challenges faced by multi-sourcing in today’s scenario. The panel comprised of multi-sourcing experts from, the client and the vendor side, as well as a mix of strategic consultants and product vendors.
