CITNE – An Important Partner For PGP Students

PGP students, past and present, are one of the three core constituencies for the Centre for IT and the Networked Economy(CITNE), ISB’s new centre of excellence. CITNE serves as the ISB’s interface to the Indian ICT industry, and as the industry’s connection to the global information systems research community. Its primary role is to carry out research in ICT that helps improve the Indian IT industry’s competitiveness and leads to overall economic growth. The PGP  IT track is supported by CITNE through a variety of initiatives as described here.

Independent Study Projects

CITNE faculty, time and interest permitting, support active learning of classroom concepts by working with a select group of PGP students through industry related independent study projects. Examples of such projects by PGP-07 students include:

- Examining, for Nasscom, the bottlenecks and avenues for IT adoption in the Indian SME manufacturing segment.

- Determining a go-to-market strategy for a Web 2.0 startup. This involved evaluating C2C versus B2B business models as ways to enter the Indian market for a web retail application.

- A white paper that describes India as a playground for spectrum management in developing nations. This study examines the features of IMT 2000 wireless standard and proposes guidelines for effective management of the limited radio spectrum available in India.

Mentoring and Incubation

A growing proportion of the ISB graduates prefer to start their own business or join start ups. CITNE faculty, time and interest permitting, offer advice to potential entrepreneurs through the various stages of a business. You can interact with CITNE’s faculty and industry contacts to test the validity and the potential of your ideas. In addition, CITNE may also selectively incubate some of the ideas.

Panel Discussions and Conferences

CITNE liaises with the Business Technology Club and organises two-three high profile panel discussions and one major academic conference that has a designated industry day. This year’s agenda includes panels titled  “Multi-sourcing: Towards Next Generation Outsourcing Contracts, June 29, 2007” and “Convergence: Telecom, Broadband, Mobile Penetration and Media, September 29.” These will be followed by the International Symposium of Information Systems (Dec 21-23). Students are encouraged to attend sessions, volunteer their time, and engage with the industry leaders and faculty from top B-schools around the world.
