WITS Feeder Event

Workshop on Information Technologies and Systems (WITS) Feeder Event:
Technology-Enabled Socioeconomic Transformations (India)
Date: December 21, 2017

Technology is enabling, not just new business models but also new social models that are transforming governments and society. For example, between October 2010 and April 2017, more than 1.13 billion Indian citizens (nearly 90% of the country’s population) were issued unique digital identities, also known as “Aadhar” IDs. Emergent research documents the significant positive impact of Aadhaar on a range of government services and schemes that provide social protection to India’s poor and deserving beneficiaries. Aadhaar is but one example of technology solutions are increasingly being used to stimulate growth, reduce corruption, solve issues in public health and education, and create positive change in communities.

The India feeder event theme, titled Technology-Enabled Socioeconomic Transformations, aims to bring together researchers who are interested in issues and solutions that are at the intersection of ICT and public policy. We encourage submissions that document and demonstrate the nature and impact of technology-enabled solutions to urgent and challenging societal problems. We welcome relevant research papers from a broad range of topics including (but not limited to) the topics listed below.

Illustrative Topics:
·        Data science in government: big data and open data
·        Digital identity and identity management
·        Civic media and social media for e-democracy
·        Technology and efficiency of delivery of public goods
·        e-Democracy/ Citizen e-Participation
·        E-government policies and strategies
·        Web 2.0 and Open Government
·        Regulating the Digital Economy
·        Open innovation and social innovation platforms
·        Privacy, trust, interoperability and security
·        Knowledge management, intelligent systems

The goal of the event is to provide feedback and stimulate discussion on research-in-progress, which informs and influences ICT-based policy decisions, especially for emerging markets. Authors of selected research papers will have the option to go through an expedited review process toward presentation in a special session as a part of the annual WITS event that will be held in San Francisco in December 2018, in conjunction with the International Conference on Information Systems (ICIS, https://icis2018.aisnet.org/).

No registration fees are charged for the feeder event.

Submissions must be sent in electronic form using the EasyChair submission system (https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=witsisrael2017).
Submissions should be in the form of a two-page extended abstract, which should detail the current/expected contribution and the current status of the research. In their submission authors should indicate whether they wish to present their paper at the WITS annual event in San Francisco. Submitted papers will be reviewed by a WITS review committee.
