Case Teaching Workshop - Mumbai
Encouraged by the growing use of case studies as a pedagogical tool at Indian B schools, the Centre for Teaching, Learning and Case Development (CTLC) at the Indian School of Business along with the S.P. Jain Institute of Management Research, Mumbai and the Richard Ivey School of Business (Ivey), The University of Western Ontario, Canada, organised a Case Teaching Workshop on February 12 & 13, 2012 in Mumbai.
The main focus of the workshop was to help participants, mainly B school faculty members, delve into the key success factors for teaching business cases. Professor Ariff Kachra from Ivey facilitated the workshop and shared his vast case teaching experience with the participants.
One of the recently completed ISB-Ivey case, Nokia Life Tools, was sent to each participant as a pre-workshop preparatory reading. Using this case as a reference, the workshop generated opportunities for participants to explore different in-class methods of case teaching, with a focus on the cross-enterprise approach. Various elements of case selection, preparation, teaching notes, delivery, and evaluation as they apply to the case classroom, were also discussed.
The workshop was well received by the participating fifty academics from S.P. Jain Institute of Management Research, K.J. Somaiya Institute of Management Studies and Research, Xavier Institute of Management & Research, TA Pai Management Institute, IES Management College, Jaipuria Institute of Management, NL Dalmia Institute, St Francis Institute of Management & Research, National Institute of Bank Management, JK Padampat Singhania Institue of Management, Parle Tilak Vidyalaya Association, PSG Institute of Management, ITM Business School, IBS, Jai Hind College, and Indian School of Business. The workshop turned out to be a step in the direction of developing a case teaching culture in Indian management schools- a cause which the Centre for Teaching, Learning, and Case Development remains enthusiastically committed to.
