Editorial Guidelines
- Two documents need to be submitted - Case and Teaching Note
- Length of Case should be 10 – 20 pages maximum, including exhibits.
- Teaching Notes should be 5-10 pages maximum, and consist of a case synopsis, learning
objectives, assignment questions, Bibliography/Suggested readings, and Teaching Plan.
- Complete spellings and grammar check is compulsory. No typos will be permissible.
- Use British English for spellings.
- Font style -
- Use 14-size Arial font, CAPS for the case title
- Use 12-size Arial, Bold, Underlined for main headings
- Use 11-size Arial, Bold for subheadings
- Use 11-size Arial for body text
- Use 9-size Arial, Italics for footnotes
- Use 8-size Arial, Italics for copyright statements.
- Tense
- Cases should be written in the past tense. The events have already occurred. Industry
notes and Teaching Notes can be written in the present tense, where appropriate.
- Voice
- As far as possible, use active and not passive voice, unless absolutely essential.
- Exhibits
- Refer to all additional presentations at the end of the case as “Exhibits”. Do not use
alternative words like “annexure”, “appendix”, etc.
- When referring to the Exhibit in the text of the case insert the words “(see Exhibit x)” at
the appropriate place.
- Use Arial 10 pt for Exhibits
- Quote the source for each exhibit. Advise as to whether the exhibit is an original
document extraction or a creation of the author using data from the original document.
- Exhibits should be of reproductive quality. Spreadsheets and tables should be inserted
into the document as editable objects, not as images, in case further editing is required.
- Avoid colour exhibits if colour is a differentiator, as in certain maps or graphs. Remember
that most cases are duplicated and distributed in black-and-white and colour
differentiation will be lost.
- References
- Footnotes are the preferred method of reference. The layout of the footnote should be as
follows: Author, article title, book title, edition number, publisher, place of publication, year
of publication, page number. All references to websites must note when the website was
accessed. A bibliography of academic sources utilised in the case preparation should go
in the Teaching Note, not in the case.
- Layout of Teaching Note
- The Teaching Note should contain the following: synopsis, case objectives, position in
course, relevant readings, assignment questions, teaching plan and analysis
(suggested/possible answers to assignment questions). Although it may not necessarily
be relevant to your pedagogical objectives, some instructors like to see a short “What
Happened” section at the end of the Teaching Note.
