Can I send my Intent to Participate form and my case Submissions by post?
The submission process for the Case Competition is only Internet-based. Kindly send across your Intent to Participate form and Case Submissions electronically. In case you are not able to provide an electronic signature for the participation form, you can scan the completed form and send it across to us at ctlc@isb.edu.
How many cases can I submit?
You can submit more than one case if you choose to.
Can I submit a case if I am not an academic?
We can accept cases from non-academics as long as the Principal author of the case is a Faculty member or Doctoral student affiliated to any B-school / University.
Is there a limitation of size for (KB/MB) of the final Case Study file?
The maximum size of the file that can be uploaded is 2MB.
Are there any rules about formatting the case and teaching note (e.g. page margins, font size)?
Please ensure that you follow these as they are part of the evaluation criteria. Also ensure that there are no references to the authors’ names and their school/university anywhere in the document.
Can my case be based on secondary research alone?
Though all cases must be based on primary research (interview based), Finance cases can be exceptions and can be based on secondary research with proper references throughout the document. Copying or plagiarizing will be basis for disqualification.
What should be the maximum length of a case and a teaching note? How many exhibits should be there ideally?
Ideally, the length of case should be 10-20 pages, including a minimum of 4 to 5 exhibits. Teaching notes should be 5-10 pages maximum, and consist of a case synopsis, learning objectives, assignment questions, bibliography/suggested readings, and a teaching plan.
Can I submit a case without a teaching note?
No, a case without a teaching note will be rejected.
Can I resubmit a case which was rejected in the last competition, i.e. ISB Case Writing Competition 2010 or 2011?
If you have reworked the case and improved it considerably, you may submit the case again.
Can I submit my case to the ISB-Ivey Global Case Competition if I have submitted my case in other competitions this year?
If you submitted your case to any other competition previously and were rejected, you may submit your reworked and improved case for the ISB-Ivey competition. The case should not be entered in any other case competitions at the same time. Please note that post competition, should your case be among the winning cases or be accepted for publishing as a co-branded ISB-Ivey case, copyright of such published cases will remain with Ivey. For cases which were not selected for publication, the copyright will remain with the authors and not with ISB or Ivey.
Why do I need consent from the company?
A signed consent from the company provides the following:
* Authorization for use of the case at ISB, Ivey and other educational institutions and organizations
* Acknowledgment of copyright of published cases being held by Ivey
Where can I find the consent form?
A sample ‘consent to use’ form is available for download on the competition website
What kind of mentoring help can I expect from ISB?
Should your submission be accepted for publication by the ISB-Ivey case review team, the ISB team will first share the judges' feedback with you and see to it that all the corrections/ suggestions are carried out by you. The team will evaluate the case and may suggest reworking certain sections. The editorial team will then content edit and proof read your Case and Teaching Note. It will also help you redesign exhibits, if necessary.
When and how can I get access to the judges’ feedback on my Case?
After the announcement of the competition results, the Centre will email the judges’ feedback for all Cases that met with the competition guidelines.
Can I obtain a sample Case for reference?
Yes, the Centre will be happy to give you a sample Case and Teaching Note on request.
What exactly is meant by the ‘what happened section’ in the editorial guidelines?
It means “What did the company actually do in the situation that the case is based upon?” If the writer has knowledge of what really happened, it should be conveyed in this section of the teaching Note. Addressing this satisfies students’ curiosities and brings closure to the case.
Can a Case be presented elsewhere but not published, be submitted for the competition?
As long as the Case is not published elsewhere, it should be fine. You can submit Cases which are presented, but not published elsewhere.
Is there any funding available during the case development process, pre or post the competition?
No, other than the prize money for the winning cases, the Centre at ISB does not allocate any funding for the participants
Will I retain publishing rights if my case is chosen as a winner?
All winning cases will be registered with Ivey and copyright after publication will remain with Ivey. Post competition, should your case be accepted for publishing as a co-branded ISB-Ivey case, copyright of such published cases will remain with Ivey. Faculty authors will receive 10 percent royalty for all external sales of the case. For cases which were not selected for publication, the copyright will remain with the authors and not with ISB or Ivey.
