Workshop on Aadhaar (Unique Identification Number)

Ltd and Dr. Mastan from HMRI. The session was inaugurated by Prof. Reuben Abraham – Executive Director, CEMS at ISB.
This workshop was hosted by the Club in collaboration with CEMS, SRITNE and WCED. During the workshop the participants brainstormed and came up with ideas for using UID in finding new business models for financial services inclusion, healthcare delivery, skilling and PDS. Solstice 2010 – Schneider Conversations for Change

This was a TED style session where each speaker chose a specific topic. The topics that were presented included the need for energy management and energy efficiency in India, the role of design thinking in emerging markets, the future of the financial sector and more. This was followed by a panel discussion.
ISB Leadership Summit 2010 – Emerging Markets Panel on Innovations for Emerging Markets

The panellists discussed the challenges facing emerging economies such as India, and the innovative solutions required to face such challenges. There was a lively debate about the nature of innovations, the growth drivers and the possible changes in policy to catalyse more innovations. Through the year the Emerging Markets Club has strived to create awareness and surface issues that impact developing markets and this discussion was very relevant and well appreciated.
Khemka Forum for Social Entrepreneurship

The Khemka Forum for Social Entrepreneurship was hosted at ISB this year. The Emerging Markets Club provided logistical and organisational support to CEMS in conducting the workshop smoothly. Design Thinking Workshop
Date: October 23-24, 2010

Immersive workshop to develop insights and develop new products and services for base of the pyramid consumers in emerging market sectors – low cost healthcare, low cost housing and skilling. Conducted over 2 days, this workshop involved visits to low cost housing colonies, hospitals and retail chains to get first hand perspectives on the needs of the base of the pyramid.

Workshop organised for the first time on a growing sector in India. The workshop was desgined to get perspectives from industry players, government bodies, non profit organisations and others. A one on one session was organised with each speaker and interested students for the Workshop.

Topic: Reverse Innovation to tap potential in Emerging Economies Date: June 28, 2010 Mr. Ramakrishna talked about the growth of mobile broadband technologies and the opportunities that it presents for a country like India. He talked about the potential of 4G technologies and the reverse innovation happening in India.
Prof. Jenik Radon, Adjunct Assistant Professor, University of Columbia
Topic: Business challenges in Emerging Markets Date: November 8, 2010 Prof. Radon has been awarded Georgia’s highest civilian honour, formed the Afghanistan relief committee, been the architect of Estonia’s privatisation, and drafted the interim constitution of Nepal amongst many other things. He shared his experiences of working in emerging markets and the business challenges.
Mr. Jerry Rao, Founder and CEO, Value & Budget Housing Corporation Topic: Affordable Housing in India Date: October 17, 2010 Mr. Jerry Rao has started this new company focussed on affordable housing solutions and they have initiated projects in a number of cities. He spoke to his about the breakthrough business model that drives the company and his perspectives on this growing market in India.
Hari Sankaran, MD and CEO of IL&FS Topic : Urbanisation and Public Private Partnerships Date: October 21, 2010 IL&FS has been the pioneer of Public Private Partnerships in India and has executed many key infrastructural projects. One of these projects is the Delhi Noida Expressway which is an example of how improvements in infrastructure can lead to an explosion of economic growth in a region. Mr. Sankaran has 34 heads of different businesses reporting to him and this was the first time Mr. Hari Sankaran has visited the ISB campus.
