India’s Energy Requirements

India has had a negative energy balance for decades, which has forced the purchase of energy from outside for transportation, industries and generation of power. Although, nearly 85% of the villages boast of connectivity to the nationwide grid for the transmission and distribution of power, reliability has always been a key issue.

International Activism

The Kyoto negotiations brought into focus the key issue of sustainability and a serious foray into alternative energy. It also succeeded in tying up economics to the feasibility of Clean Energy models through the CER model though implementation remained elusive for the world. The Copenhagen Summit reignites this debate and the search for an economically viable, mutually acceptable and clean future for India and the world.
