The ISB’s Research Chair in “Real Estate and Urban Studies” has been created with a grant of US $ 550,000, spread over a period of five years, from Indu Projects Ltd - a Hyderabad based Real Estate Company. An MOU to this effect was signed between the company and the ISB on May 9, 2006.

Speaking on the occasion, Professor M Rammohan Rao, Dean, ISB, said, “This Research Chair is of great significance to us, as it is not only the first Research Chair to be instituted at the ISB, it is also the first Chair in Real Estate and Urban Studies in India.”

Indu Projects Ltd specialises in building, developing, and promoting IT Parks, Integrated Townships, Urban Residential Complexes, Theme Parks, and plays an important role in creating core infrastructure. It also offers knowledge-based end-to-end solutions in retail infrastructure development. The company has been doubling its business, year after year.

The Managing Director and CEO of Indu Projects, Mr Syam Prasad Reddy, said, “Real estate is extremely important to the economic development of the state and the nation. At Indu we believe in knowledge being a driver of growth but there is a dearth of knowledge in the real estate sector. I found that the ISB is doing a great job in producing a new generation of world-class business leaders in a variety of fields. I want to support ISB’s efforts by adding a new dimension of real estate.”

On this momentous occasion, Professor V Chandrasekar, former Executive Director of WCED, said, “Driven by positive growth in the economy, real estate in India is booming and showing signs of emerging as one of the fastest growing sectors in India. There is a need for, systematic planning, objective information, and policy formulation to guide real estate players and support urban development in the country today. I look forward to providing a valuable resource to this sector through the efforts of this Research Chair.”

The ISB would engage a top professor of international stature to lead research, organise conferences/ seminars and interface with academia and practitioners to debate key real estate & urban development issues. Such research would provide the much needed knowledge in this field and would also serve as a significant resource for realtors and infrastructure providers.
