Toppers among the Best

Vivek Lath is a B.Tech & M.Tech from IIT KharagpurVivek Lath from the Class of 2009 with three years of work experience in Schlumberger as Senior Field Engineer.

Determination alone can help in achieving great heights

Since day one, I was determined to achieve a good academic performance at the ISB. This determination to excel, along with disciplined and consistent hard work, helped me in scoring the best. Despite personal commitments and heavy work-load at times, I never missed any class or gave less than complete commitment to any assignment. Rather than working on the last day before any assignment or an exam, I applied consistent efforts throughout the year. The continuous preparation, instead of a last minute approach, helped me in managing my time well. I was able to fit more into each day - not only on the academic front, but also outside the classroom, with friends and family.

I remember today the famous quote by Richard Devos, “The only thing that stands between a man and what he wants from life is often merely the will to try it and faith to believe it is possible.”

First among a batch of highly competent professionals

My peer group at the ISB is amazingly talented, mature and quite diverse. All of them are competent in their areas and are highly competitive. What kept me ahead was hard work along with a focussed approach. Here, I want to thank my study group, my wife Palak, my parents, and my friends who helped me in coping with the pressure from different dimensions and boosted my morale and self confidence.

Life changing experience

The ISB has been a life changing experience for me. It provided me with an opportunity to expand my horizons, make friends for life and gave me a chance to improve my capabilities. Overall the programme was quite intense and demanding and yet I found myself questing for more every moment – more learning and more fun!

I truly believe that faculty at the ISB are world-class who bring a rich mix of industry experience and academic expertise. Course content, mode of teaching and overall evaluation is meticulously planned.

Ready for the world

Irrespective of the market, this award is a testimony of my skills and diligence. The sheer confidence gained from this experience will help me to overcome any problem which I face in my life. I am sure other professionals will value this award outside the ISB as well.

Vivek will be joining the Media Industry based at Gurgaon.

Sumit Popli from the Class of 2009Sumit Popli is a B.Tech and M.Tech in Electrical Engineering from IIT Madras and has worked as a hardware engineer at Nvidia Graphics.

Lessons from a game of basket ball

I belong to a R&D background and thus management was a different cup of tea for me. It took a lot of perseverance, focus and hard work to stay at the top. I am a sports freak and enjoy a good game of basket ball at any time through the day. The skills of the same game helped me to stay focussed and collaborate with various teams. A lot of hard work went into it, but when I think about it a little more carefully, it was also about prioritising things you have in hand and celebrating every little achievement and milestone.

Reward with responsibility

At such a time as this, this reward comes with responsibilities. It is up to us to learn from the downturn and contribute towards making the future better. That said, irrespective of times, this moment is inspirational. Excelling among such an exceptional peer group is a source of inspiration for the future.

In the next inning of his career Sumit will join a management consulting firm. In the long term he plans to start something on his own and lessons learnt at the ISB will hold him in good stead.
