Raj Airey General Manager, Baxter India Pvt Ltd |
Raj Airey is General Manager of Baxter India, a global diversified healthcare company. At Baxter, Airey’s role as General Manager encompasses complete planning and management of the company. He brings 23 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry of which 19 were with Pfizer - including eight years in general management.
In addition, Airey has chaired NGO’s and think tank initiatives in the area of IPR and encouraging innovation as well as industry/trade associations. He has held several board positions and has experience in representing the R&D pharmaceutical sector in industry forums and public debate in Poland and Slovakia. A post graduate from London University Airey has considerable management experience with a track record of building successful organisations in fast moving environments. |
Anandh Balasundaram Managing Director, AstraZeneca Pharma |
Anandh Balasundaram is currently the Managing Director of AstraZeneca Pharma India Ltd. He has been with the company for over 4 years.
Balasundaram is a postgraduate in Management from the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad and a Graduate in Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, New Delhi. Prior to AstraZeneca, he has had a rich experience of 16 years mainly in the areas of sales and marketing in companies like Hindustan UniLever Limited and Cadbury India Limited.

As a scientist par international standard, well versed in the Plant/Human/Yeast systems, Dr Krishna M Ella has more than 30 scientific publications to his credit in peer reviewed academic journals. His expertise in Gene Expression Systems has been well acclaimed and demonstrated, internationally.
Dr Ella is a member of various high level Commissions viz., X Five Year Plan – Biotechnology, Government of India, Co-chair, Human Resources & Innovation, National Biotech Policy, GoI (2004-05), Co-chair, High Technology Cooperation Groups (HTCG) – Indo-US Governments, National Task Force – Industrial Biotechnology, GoI and member of Confederation of Indian Industry's National Council on IPR. Chairman of Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) – Biotech Committee, he is also the Advisor for many State Governments on Biotechnology.
Dr Ella is the first recipient of the Best Entrepreneur of the Year, 2003. He founded and established Bharat Biotech International Limited in 1996 along with his wife Suchitra Ella. The Company today, is on the forefront of Indian Biotechnology engaged in R&D, manufacturing and marketing of vaccines and biotherapeutics. |
Ranga Iyer Managing Director, Wyeth Ltd |

Ranga Iyer is the Managing Director of Wyeth Limited subsidiary of Wyeth USA. He joined Wyeth in 1980 and rose to become its Managing Director in the year 2000. Before becoming Managing Director, he has held various positions of increasing responsibilities in Finance and Commercial functions.
Iyer has worked on behalf of the Pharma Industry with the Govt of India on matters relating to Drug Pricing Policy and the Intellectual Property Rights for Pharma Industry. In recognition of his contribution to the industry, he has been adjudged as the 33rd most influential person in the Global Pharmaceutical Industry by World Pharmaceutical Frontiers in 2009, a leading UK Pharma magazine. Academically, Iyer holds a Post Graduate degree in Commerce and MBA in Finance from Bombay University.

Sandeep Sahney heads the India and South Asia operations for Genzyme, one of the foremost Biotechnology companies in the world today, and is based out of Gurgaon. In his current role, Sahney is building Genzyme operations in the region as a fully integrated company with focus on bringing the novel treatments to Indian patients as well as partnering with organisations in both private and public sectors in the areas of Research and Development.
Genzyme India, in its first 2 years of existence has introduced four novel treatments in the Indian market, besides strengthening its compassionate access for another four therapies targeted at genetic disorders. Genzyme India is seriously engaged in clinical development of its NCEs in India and it has also entered into collaboration with ICGEB (International Centre for Genetic Engineering & Biotechnology) in the area of Malaria research. Sahney is an MBA from FMS, University of Delhi and an Executive Committee member of the Organisation of Pharmaceutical Producers of India (OPPI). He is also a member of CII National Committee on Biotechnology for the year 2009-10.

Dr Swami Subramaniam is Director, External Research and Licensing for the Merck Research Laboratories, Merck & Co, Inc. His role is to identify partnering opportunities that fit with Merck's strategic research and development objectives in key franchise areas. Such opportunities may reside in universities, start-up companies, government institutes or established bio-pharma firms within India.
He is one of several licensing "ambassadors" deployed by Merck to biomedical innovation clusters throughout the world. As part of Merck's global licensing team, the regional scientific assessment professionals build relationships, provide guidance on Merck's licensing interests, and serve as a local contact for companies and institutions with which Merck can collaborate to develop best-in-class therapeutics for serious unmet medical needs.

As the head of the Acumen Fund in East Africa - Biju Mohandas is responsible for all Africa related investments, operations and business development activities. Additionally, as part of the portfolio leadership team, he is jointly responsible for the global portfolio of Acumen Fund with special focus on our health investments. Prior to this role, he has managed Acumen fund’s investments in the health and water and sanitation portfolios in India and headed operations and finance functions of the India office. He has about a decade of experience in the health care sector which has ranged from clinical care and operations management to venture capital investments in early stage healthcare companies. Mohandas has an MBA from the Indian school of business specialising in analytical finance and strategic marketing and has also served in the Indian Army.

Dr Hari Prasad is the CEO of Apollo Health City, Hyderabad. He created a platform and provided the impetus for establishing emergency medicine as a specialty in India and provided the platform to establish the first operational health city in Asia, Apollo Health City, Hyderabad.
He led the team that took Apollo Hospitals, Hyderabad through Joint Commission International Accreditation. He has consistently provided new solutions for sustained growth and creating healthy EBIDTA margins for Hyderabad division of Apollo Hospitals. Dr Prasad is the first individual outside Europe to be honoured with the Fellowship of College of Emergency Medicine, UK.
