Convergence – the changing entertainment landscape – Media Club
Increased bandwidth is impacting the process of creating and distributing multimedia content. The range of entertainment options and the way a user can experience them on devices like the PC, phone, pda, iPod and numerous others that exist today – gives birth to the concept of convergence. The lines are blurring and attempts are being made to create a single device that serves all the needs of a user, and at the same time provides the content creator an effective way to reach his target audience. A mobile company (Nokia/Airtel) is competing with a television network (Sony/Star), who in turn is competing with a software company (Microsoft) that is in competition with a handheld devices manufacturer (Apple). In a way, people from all these ‘presumably different’ industries are essentially competing for the same dollar.
How do you think this competitive landscape will evolve over time and to what extent will the consumer drive this change? We invite you to come and share with us your opinions and forecasts for the industry.
