The New India: Changing Paradigms in Business Leadership
The students of ISB take great pleasure in announcing the launch of the ISB Leadership Summit (ILS) to be held on December 2, 2006 at the ISB. ILS is the flagship event of the School and provides young leaders the opportunity to interact with eminent business leaders. The theme for the Summit this year is The New India: Changing Paradigms in Business Leadership.
The Indian economy is now among the fastest growing in the world, signs of economic progress are plain for many to see in our cities. However, many commentators have argued that given the pace of official decision making, most of India’s progress has been achieved in spite of the government, not because of it. India’s vibrant democracy has often taken the fall for the pace of reforms – the blame squarely on the age of single-issue coalition governments.
Business and government don’t need to be at loggerheads, in fact, successful instances of public-private partnerships abound. What strategies can government and business follow to end an era of often uneasy cohabitation? How can policymakers and India Inc. ensure that India goes from Developing to Developed? Most importantly, is there any way out of systemic corruption, endemic poverty, a rural India that has not participated in any economic growth, and a rapidly crumbling urban infrastructure?
