Carmen García Herrero Previous Company: Capital Certainty Sector: IT development Work Experience: 2 years and 6 months Professional Interests: social entrepreneurship, international cooperation Other Interests: travelling, dancing and reading
What were your primary reasons for choosing the ISB? I decided to apply to ISB because of two reasons. Firstly, I wanted to do it in Asia. More concretely I preferred India since I had developed my professional career in the IT sector and this country is the most advanced in the IT field. And secondly, I was interested in doing a one year management programme.
How is the experience at the ISB going to contribute to your career growth? I would like to go on working in the IT field and specifically in something related to social entrepreneurship or international cooperation. Doing the Post Graduate Programme in Management from a well known business school like the Indian School of Business in an emerging market, will increase my opportunities to be exposed to all these fields.
How has your peer group helped you adjust in India? My peer group has helped me adjust to a new country in an amazing way! All colleagues in the ISB have made me feel very well received and have tried to help with every little detail. Most of the class work or assignments are to be completed in a group of four to five members, known as the Study Group. In this way I get to work closely with people from different cultures and backgrounds, and this is one of the most enriching aspects of the education received at the ISB.
What are your views on the curriculum of the programme so far? We have only completed the first term but I have found all the subjects tremendously interesting. Coming from an engineering background, as it is in my case, I was used to studying subjects which were more theoretical and could not be directly applied in daily life. On the contrary, all my courses at the ISB have opened my mind to understand how companies work and interact with other enterprises and organisations.
What do you think about the teaching methods adopted by the faculty? The teaching method is very practical. It involves a lot of group work that allows me to experience different view points represented by my colleagues. Also along with these projects, there is always a certain amount of personal work to be done that allows me to brainstorm and come up with clear ideas and principles. The quality of the professors and their human approach is something that I would like to highlight as well because I think it is one of the fundamental pillars of the learning process at the ISB.
If you were to recommend the ISB to an international applicant what would you say? Without a doubt I think they should definitely apply for the Post Graduate Programme in Management. ISB will offer you a great opportunity to learn and interact with incredible people. It is also a daily challenge that extracts the best out of you. It will be your most amazing experience as you will learn how to work hard, confidently and also manage time more effectively.
