Tell us about your experience working with the World Health Organisation? I was associated with WHO for more than 3 years, first as an external consultant based at Headquarters, Geneva, Switzerland and then as an insider (Budget Officer, a professional post entitled to UN passport) based in Brazzaville, Congo. It was a satisfying experience, knowing that every aspect of the work we do, contributes to the implementation of health programmes like eradication of AIDS, Polio, Malaria in one of the worst affected countries in the world. It provided a platform where I could meet people from all over the world, interact with dignitaries like Kofi Annan, Prince Charles, Nobel laureate Amartya Sen to name a few. What are your thoughts about the ISB teaching methods? Here in ISB, we are being taught by some of the top world- class professors and each one of them has their own distinct style of teaching, engaging the students and exposing them to various aspects of the subject. It is more of an interactive method of teaching laying focus on student participation.
Describe a typical day for you at the ISB? There are so many things to do at the same time that each day starts at a different time and involves class room study, study group assignments, individual study etc. before I realise, the day is already over.
How do you expect that studying at the ISB is going to influence you in the long run? There is a great learning opportunity, if used judiciously, will do lot of good to our profile in general. There are couple of aspects that I feel will be the key takeaways, like the class room sessions (taught by world- class professors), diversity in the batch, the social initiatives, ability to team up with people who may not have the same line of thinking (through study groups) etc.
Describe some aspects of the ISB that particularly appeals to you the most? Diversity and also the fact that unlike other institutions, students here come with considerable work experience which only enhances our learning as they relate to the real life examples and situations.
What suggestions would you like to give to a prospective student about the ISB? There is an excellent learning opportunity here but students are likely to be stressed about grades, jobs, other factors through peer pressure etc. Come here to learn and try to find your own place as there are ample opportunities and room for every student to do well in multiple ways.
