How do you think the ISB network would benefit you?
I think one of the biggest takeaways of a business school is the network that one creates while they are here. Distinguished alumni, world-class faculty, very talented motley of students form a part of this rich ecosystem. Besides, we also have CEOs and top management of various companies that visit our campus very frequently and interact with the students. This also makes the School a great place for current and prospective entrepreneurs.

I also look at it in this way, in a batch that has a median GMAT score of 720; I believe that everyone will be smart enough when it comes to picking up course concepts and specifics. Therefore though academics are important, it is probably more important to know the student next to you, who in all likelihood will be part of a company’s top management in a few years after graduating from the programme.

What are some of the electives that you have opted for and why? On the learning model/curriculum
I have opted for two electives: Strategy and Entrepreneurship. Given my experience and professional interests, I believe that these match my profile and interests best.

The ISB employs the latest practices in management education and the course curriculum is updated very frequently. Teaching pedagogy involves the case method and many of the exams are of open book type thereby enforcing learning by application. Most courses also involve extensive project work.

How about the faculty?
The faculty is world class and truly global. We have area leaders and visiting faculty from some of the other best universities in the world. I feel that this is very important as these distinguished professors have the ability to completely change one’s entire perspective and interest levels in a subject or area.

Any subject that you found particularly interesting?
I particularly will always remember the first strategy course that I was exposed to. The subject had an extensive number of cases and the professor completely turned-around our understanding and analysis of many of them. The cases were as close to real-life situations as possible and helped simulate complex situations in the classroom.

As the President of the Net Impact Club, tell us about some of the initiatives you have taken up at the ISB
The Net Impact Club at the ISB was Asia’s first student chapter and the mission of the club is to inspire student interest in applying business skills towards positive social impact. We have created various focus tracks along the lines of NGO Capacity Building/Pro-Bono Consulting, Social Entrepreneurship, Social Sensitisation & Advocacy, Campus Greening and Community Events and even have one on careers that facilitates opportunities for those interested in the development sector. Our most recent achievement was the mobilising of resources worth Rs. 1.5 million in 4 weeks for the Bihar flood, leading to the adoption of a village. We also coordinated and setup a supply chain that cut across the government, NGOs and corporate houses and transported 2 tons of medicines and 2 tons of clothing to the flood affected areas.

We also recently arranged the annual ISB Social Responsibility Conclave. This flagship event attracted over 400 attendees across business houses, NGOs, political bodies and social enterprises across cities in India. As part of the conclave, we also conceptualised and organised an all India inter-business school paper writing competition on “The roles of business education on ‘good’ corporate management”.
