Why the ISB? The ISB has the best faculty from the leading schools across the world. The average work experience of an incoming class is five years and the wealth of knowledge that the peer group brings to the classroom is invaluable. I was looking for a one year programme with a diverse peer group and the ISB was the perfect choice.
After having majored in French, what made you opt for this Programme and how do you think it will contribute to your career growth? After completing the French Major, I worked in the corporate sector for a few years and felt the need to ameliorate my knowledge base in the realm of business. Not only has the ISB enhanced my intuitive ability towards managerial decision making, it has also given me the theoretical education that allows me to analyse the decision making process based on time tested theories in economics, strategy and marketing.
In addition, being an active member of the International Club at the ISB has added to my global perspective. Consequentially, I hope to be able to contribute much more to the organisation I work with in the future.
What are some of the opportunities you are looking forward to? I am looking forward to a General Management or Strategy role in a services company after completion of this programme, as I have been in a client facing role prior to joining the ISB and enjoy the challenge of managing negotiations.
How has the ISB surprised you? The sheer passion with which the student body at the ISB approaches projects of varied natures and magnitudes blows me away every time. From the blood donation drive to holding seminars, hosting foreign ambassadors and CEOs of leading firms, each member of the team puts in his/her best foot forward (while managing to submit all the assignments on time – because of a supportive study group of course!).
On your peer group It’s an absolute pleasure to have some of the most talented and sharp individuals as my peers. So while I discuss statistical theories with a former scientist in my class, I am enthralled by the performance of a trained Carnatic singer outside it. Each individual is hugely accomplished in his/her own field / talent and the best bit is that each of them is more than willing to share their knowledge / art with you.
How would you describe the ISB to a prospective student? It’s a family with very strong bonds, the members of which will keep inspiring, supporting, cajoling, and pushing you to be the best. It is a learning ground not just for the academically inclined but also for those looking to build on their interpersonal skills.
