The Pre-Doctoral Programme is a two-year full time residential programme for candidates aspiring for academic research and teaching careers in the study of business management.

| The ISB has academic affiliations with leading international B-schools such as the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, the Kellogg School at North Western University, University of California at Los Angeles, and New York University, which can be leveraged effectively for application to doctoral programmes. |
| 5) Is there any guarantee that these schools will admit the pre-doctoral students from the ISB? |
| No, there is no guarantee that these schools will admit successful pre-doctoral students from the ISB, and admissions will be based on each school’s criteria and procedures. However, we are confident that the rigorous course work and hands-on research that students will be exposed to during the programme will make them attractive and competitive PhD applicants at these and other equivalent business schools. |
| B) Programme Structure |
| 1) What is the workload in the first year? |
| In the first year, you will take introductory doctoral level courses, in Probability and Statistics, Optimisation Methods, Micro Economics, Econometrics and Research Methodology. In addition, you will assist resident faculty with research and teaching. This will help you gain research and teaching experience, and will improve your chances of admission to top-tier PhD programmes. |

| The second year of the programme will consist of course work in the major field of interest, completion of an academically sound research paper in the chosen area and hands-on research in close collaboration with faculty. By the end of the second year, you are expected to obtain admission into a top-tier doctoral programme in your major field. |

| B) Selection Criteria |
| a) GMAT/GRE |

| 1) Is there a cut-off score for the GMAT/GRE at the ISB? |
There is no cut-off score for the GMAT/GRE; however, a competitive score strengthens the application, but does not in anyway guarantee admission. Similarly, a lower score also does not necessarily mean exclusion.

| 2) Is it mandatory to take GMAT/GRE before applying to the ISB? |
Yes it is. The applicant has to take the GMAT and submit his/her score before sending in the application; or the applicant has to mention the expected exam and its date which has to be before the last date of the submission of the application form.

| 3) What is the validity period for a GMAT/GRE score? |
| Currently a GMAT/GRE score is valid for five years. |
|
4) If I submit more than one GMAT/GRE score, which score will be considered by the ISB?
|
| The higher score would be considered, provided it is within the validity period of five years. |
| 5) How long does it take for the official scores to reach the ISB? |
| Normally it takes 2-3 weeks for the official GMAT score to reach us. Therefore, we strongly recommend that you plan and book the GMAT test dates well in advance. |
| 6) Will I be considered for the deadline, if I send the scores later? |
| You will not be allowed to submit your application without a valid GMAT score. However, you can submit the application with your test centre scores, but the official score should also reach us within 3 weeks of submission of your online application. |
| 7) Can GMAT/GRE requirement be waived under exceptional circumstances? |
| No, the GMAT/GRE score cannot be waived under any circumstances. |
| b) CAT |
| 1) Is the CAT score considered? |
| No, the CAT score will not be considered. |
| 2) What kind of Math/Quantitative skills are you expecting from the candidate? |
We are expecting graduate level quantitative skills.

| c) Research Experience |
| 1) Do I need to have practical research experience? |
|
| No, but you should demonstrate a strong interest in a research career in business management. If you do have any prior experience that will definitely be considered. |
| d) Work Experience |
|
| 1) Is any prior work experience required? |
| No prior work experience is required, but if you do have some work experience, it will be evaluated. |
| 2) Is there any age bar for this programme? |
No, there is no age bar for this programme.

| D) Application Process |
| 1) i) Where do I get a copy of the application form? |
(a) The ISB’s entire application process is available online. (b) You may also download and print a hard copy of the application form from the programme website. (c) You may also request a hard copy of the application from the Pre-Doctoral Programme Office. Please provide a proper mailing address, including pin code. |
| ii) Where do I submit the forms? |

| 2) Does the entire online application need to be completed in one session? |
| No, you can complete the online application in multiple sessions and have the option to save parts of the application as you proceed. |
| 3) Do I need to submit a printed copy of the application form once I have submitted it online? |
| No, we will not require you to send a printed copy of the application form, if you have submitted it online. |
| 4) How do I send my transcripts/mark sheets, certificates required as part of the application? |

Scan your duly attested documents (both sides) and upload them as part of your online application. Please note that you are expected to submit attested copies of your original certificates, on demand at the time of the interview.

| 5) How much time do I have to accept or decline an admission offer? |
| The ISB should receive your acceptance decision within two weeks from the date of the admission offer. |
| 6) Do I need to submit any letters of recommendation and how do I submit them? |
| You are required to submit 3 letters of reference (at the most one non-academic).Your referees should send the letters by post/courier before the application submission deadline to the Pre-Doctoral Programme office at the ISB. |
| 7) What is the submission deadline date? |
In response to numerous requests, the deadline for submission of completed applications has been extended to June 30, 2008.

| E) Interviews |
|
| 1) Do you have a GD/Personal Interview as part of the admission criteria? |
| As a part of the admission process, all short listed candidates will be interviewed; however there will be no group discussion. |
| 2) When will I be informed about the final decision? |
| Final decisions will be made and intimated to you by August 15, 2008. |
F) Fees and Financial Aid  |
| 1) What is the tuition fee? |
| The annual cost of tuition for the Pre-Doctoral Programme is INR 5,00,000, but the ISB is committed to providing financial assistance to all students admitted into this programme. Academic fellowships will cover the tuition fees and boarding expenses. |
| G) Residential Facilities |
| 1) Are all students required to live on campus? |
| Given the rigour and intensity of the programme, students are required to live on campus. You will learn not just from academic coursework, but also from participation in research projects with the faculty at the ISB. |
| 2) What kind of residential facilities are available at the School? |
