Experiential Learning Programme (ELP) for the PGP students allows them to work in teams with the industry on real world business issues. ELPs give them a chance to apply the learning outside classroom settings and gain new perspectives on business and major global issues. The objective of our project was to identify the core data mining applications required by the retail sector. Specifically, the project involves the following:

• Analytics in the retail space: Explore the current use of analytics in retail space. Map the gap in need vs availability.

• Business Analysis: Categorise the analysis required for decision making by various segments – managerial needs, frequency of use, etc. Identify crucial data points required for key decision variables such as store expansion, in-store sales, promotions, etc.

•Feasibility study: Identify data mining applications which deliver biggest bang for the buck for retail companies – evaluate from an ROI perspective.

•The reason why these projects are so exciting is the hands on experience gained by doing the primary research by interviewing the industry experts. Overall, the project provides a ground to practically apply the theories learnt in the class.
