Symposium participants are expected to make their own travel arrangements to and from ISB. For visitors from the US, the best strategy is to consult with other colleagues in your department or university that are familiar with making travel arrangements to India. They will recommend a local (in most cases Indian) travel agent in your city who will typically give you better fares than what you can find on online travel sites such as Expedia, Orbitz and Travelocity.
Online Booking: Some of the websites that facilitate international travel are: www.makemytrip.com, www.travelguru.com, www.travel.com, www.travelocity.com
Expected Price: December being the peak travel season to India you will do well to book your tickets in advance. From our experience you can expect to pay anything in the range of USD 1200-2000 for a round trip economy class ticket from the US.
Direct to Hyderabad: We recommend that you fly directly to Hyderabad International Airport with the following Airlines:
• Lufthansa (from Frankfurt) • NW/KLM (from Amsterdam) • Singapore Airlines • Emirates (from Dubai)
Direct from North America to Delhi/Mumbai: In addition you could also consider flying non-stop from Chicago to New Delhi after WITS/WISE/ICIS on American Airlines and subsequently connecting with a local flight to reach Hyderabad. Other non-stop flights from N. America to Delhi originate from Newark, NJ (Continental) and Toronto, Canada (Air Canada). There is also a new JFK-Mumbai (Delta) flight that has recently been announced. Almost every major airline flies to Delhi and Mumbai and tickets to these destinations are on average cheaper than those directly to Hyderabad. But you have to factor in the additional inconvenience of flying to Hyderabad after a long journey.
Transferring from Delhi/Mumbai to Hyderabad: Flying time from Mumbai and Delhi to Hyderabad is one hour and two hours respectively. In both cities you will have to undertake a transfer from the International airport to the Domestic terminal. We can help you with this by arranging a private air-conditioned taxi if you let us know your exact travel plans in advance.
Travelling within India: Most US based travel agents catering to the Indian travelling community will also be able to help you with your travel arrangements within India. Alternatively, we recommend you work with the Travel Desk at ISB, the contact details for which are:
