ISB Football League
“When the sun goes down, they come out to play”
The idea of ISB Football League was conceived by a bunch of die-hard football enthusiasts and has the backing of the Sports club and the Student Life Council at the ISB. Shom, Captain, Blazing Reds is all excited about the league and says, “No matter where you start, in a while, you’ll find yourself discussing the ISB Football League.” In its first edition, which began on July 23, the league has five clubs managed by the smartest sportswomen on campus and the teams will battle it out for the top spot over the course of term 3.
The theme of the entire league has been kept on something that everybody can relate to and adds zing to the entire competition. Viegas, Captain, Icy Blues passionately says, “Break a sweat, make a friend.” Samridh, Captain, Wild Greens adds, “The passion of the sport amongst a selected few lead to the birth of the idea and we hope that the fever catches on!”
How the teams were formed?
The managers along with the captains chose their teams by a round robin elective process to ensure that all teams are competitive. The teams formed will remain the same for one season, which will last one term. Adding to the excitement, at the end of each term, the trading window for buying players will be open. The uniqueness of the league is that it is not only to promote interaction across sections, but also encourages people to build fitness and sports into a life stormed by exams and assignments. Going forward, the league is hopeful to add more players to the teams or might add another club depending on the response. The league will also promote interaction amongst people from different classes, not only for just the players but also for the spectators.
Ajay, Captain, Golden Rays sends out a call to all the ISBians, “Come and witness how people from different sections unite through a common passion. The league is your opportunity to learn people management in practice.”

A Season of Plenty…Of Sports that is! It has been a busy four months. It is only the start the start of Term 3, and the Class of 2010 has already had inter-section tournaments in Swimming, Soccer, Table Tennis and an inter-section relay. One could not have asked for a more exciting beginning to life at the ISB.
The Class of 2010 kicked off the sports season with an inter-section relay around the ISB campus. Each section had a team of four. Each leg of the relay consisted of one lap on the ring-road around the ISB campus, a distance of approximately one kilometer. The relay had an exciting conclusion as Mark Gardiner, a participant in several IronMans, came from behind to win the event for Section F. Next up for grabs was the crown for Table Tennis (TT) Section Champion.
Probably one of the most popular recreational sports in India, the TT tournament was intensely competitive. In no time, the Recreation Center was filled with the rhythmic tap-tap of TT balls and the cheers of each section’s supporters. The final tie was between Section E and Section H, with Section E claiming the championship with a close and hard fought win. From the hands to the feet, the focus now shifted to Soccer.
The inter-section soccer tournament, or the “Midnight Soccer Tournament”, as it was called, was a smashing success. Matches were played in the cool of night with loud cheering sections from each section egging their teams on. Each team consisted of seven players, of which two were girls. Section F, after surviving a scare in the semis, went on to defeat Section H in the final. It was now time to “cool-off”, as the next tournament in line was the”Swim2Win” swimming competition.
The swimming tournament was broken up into Men’s, Women’s and Relay categories. To the sounds of their section mates cheering wildly, the contestants swam racked up the laps as the competition progressed. In the end, the Section D prevailed, with Section E finishing second.
If this is a sign of things to come, then the Class of 2010 is surely in for an exciting, sports-filled year.
