Chief Guest: D Purandeswari, Hon’ble Minister of State for Human Resource Development, Government of India D Purandeswari, Hon’ble Minister of State for Human Resource Development, Government of India, from the very initial year proved to be an effective and dedicated Member of Parliament by bringing to the fore several problems relating to agriculture, education, public health, science & technology, mother-child welfare, natural calamities, and the problems faced by weavers and artisans in the country. She raised these issues forcefully in the House for appropriate redress. Special Address: Captain Gopinath, Chairman and Managing Director, Deccan Cargo and Express Pvt Ltd Captain G R Gopinath is the Chairman and Managing Director of Deccan 360, India’s new logistics company which began operations in May 2009. Captain Gopinath’s vision for Deccan 360 is of a multimodal transshipment and delivery network that will connect India’s hinterlands to India’s metros and also to global businesses such as Dubai and Hong Kong in our region. Deccan 360 has become the first Indian cargo airline to launch international freight operations and to induct wide body (Airbus A310) freighter aircraft in its fleet.  Captain Gopinath is also the Chairman of Deccan Charters (formerly Deccan Aviation), the helicopter charter business he founded along with his ‘buddies’ from the Indian Army and the Army Aviation Corps. He has been honoured with prestigious awards such as the “Rajotsava Award” by Government of Karnataka, “Chevalier de la Legion d’Honneur” the highest civilian award conferred by the French Government and the “Sir M Visvesvaraya Memorial Award” by the Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce & Industry. He has also been conferred the “Laureate Award” in the Outstanding Global CEO category by Aviation Week , New York and the “Editors Choice Award” by Indian Express for the biggest impact on tourism in India. AIMS an Overview: Professor J Philip, President, XIME, Bangalore Professor J Philip is the founder and builder of Xavier Institute of Management & Entrepreneurship (XIME), the prestigious Management School in Bangalore, which is recognised as one of the top Business Schools in the country. He is currently the President and Director Emeritus of XIME. Before venturing on to building this institution from ground zero, he was the Director of Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore for about six years, 1985-91. He has been seen as the turnaround Director who turned around IIM-B in late 80’s to its path to excellence. While at IIM-B he took the initiative in founding Association of Indian Management Schools (AIMS), the umbrella organisation of the business schools of India. He was also its first President 1988-92. Recently he has been elected as the first President of the newly founded Association of BRICS Business Schools (ABBS) – Business Schools from Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.

Dr Uday Salunkhe, a Mechanical Engineer with a Management Degree in “Operations” pursued his Doctorate in “Turnaround Strategies”. He has a rich corporate experience of 12 years, which includes his tenure with Mahindra & Mahindra, ISPL and other companies. He has been invited as visiting fellow at the Harvard Business School, USA and European University, Germany and recipient of several awards in academia in India and abroad. He has taken over as the President of Association of Indian Management Schools (AIMS) for the year 2007-08 which is the second largest network of management schools in the world. He is also a member of the Executive Board of Association of Management Development Institutions in South Asia (AMDISA). L Brooks Entwistle, Managing Director, Goldman Sachs India L Brooks Entwistle is the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Goldman Sachs (India) Securities Private Limited, based in Mumbai. In this role he has responsibility for all the firm’s businesses in India. His previous responsibilities at the Firm include co-founding the Asia High Technology Group, serving as Chief Operating Officer for Goldman Sachs (Asia) LLC, and as a Managing Director in the Financial Sponsors Group.  Entwistle is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and The Explorers Club. He serves on the board of The Aspen Institute India, The US-India Business Council and Young Life. He is a Henry Crown Fellow at The Aspen Institute and a member of the Bombay Chapter of The Young Presidents Organisation (YPO). Entwistle earned an AB in History from Dartmouth College in 1989 and an MBA from Harvard Business School in 1995. He lives in Mumbai with his wife Laura and their three daughters Bryanna (8), Kayla (6) and Ashley (5). Professor Shefali Gautam, Director, Shiva Institute of Management Studies and President, AIMSProfessor Shefali Gautam is the Director of the Shiva Institute of Management Studies. She has over 20 years of experience in Academics and Administration. She is currently the President of the Association of Indian Management Schools. In 1993, she joined All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) as Assistant Director and was looking after the area of Management, Architecture, Hotel Management and PG Programmes in Engineering and Technology. After serving there for 3 years, she joined as Director of Shiva Institute of Management Studies in March 1997 and is serving here till date. She has been awarded PhD in the area of Management. She is a Post Graduate in Psychology from Delhi University. Eileen Peacock is Vice President (VP) of Asia at AACSB International – The Association to Advance  Collegiate Schools of Business. As VP, Dr Peacock leads AACSB’s Asia initiatives, and is located in Singapore. Her efforts guide the organisation’s membership and accreditation services within the region. In support of AACSB’s mission to advance quality management education worldwide, Peacock is responsible for developing effective relationships with Asian management education associations, colleges and institutions. Dr Peacock’s research has been published in a wide variety of publications, including The Journal of Information Systems, Information & Management, The British Accounting Review, Review of Business Information Systems, Internal Auditing, Journal of Cost Management, Journal of International Accounting, Auditing and Taxation, and Database. Dr B V R Mohan Reddy, Chairman, Infotech Enterprises

Mohan Reddy is the Founder, Chairman and Managing Director and the CEO of Infotech Enterprises and is acknowledged as the pioneer of CAD/CAM in India. An entrepreneur and technologist, Reddy started his first venture in 1982 to bring high-end computing technology to India. He has around thirty years of Engineering and Management Experience. The success of Infotech is a testament to his vision to build a customer focused organization delivering high quality solutions. Reddy was conferred a honorary degree of Doctor of Philosophy by Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University in the year 2007 in recognition of his contribution to industry and society. He has also won many other accolades and awards.

Professor Abad Ahmed, Past President, AIMS Dr Abad Ahmad has been Professor of Management, Dean of the Faculty of Management Studies, Director South Campus, and Pro-Vice-Chancellor at the University of Delhi. He was Executive Director of the Management Development Institute, Gurgaon, and President of the Association of Indian Management Schools. He was visiting Professor at the Indiana University, and the University of California, Los Angeles, USA. Dr Ahmad has published several articles and books. His well-known books are: “Management and Organization Development”, “Developing Effective Organizations – the Indian Experience”, “Designing and Developing Organizations for Tomorrow”, and “Passion to Win – How Winning Companies Develop and Sustain Competitive Edge”, which is based on a very comprehensive empirical research on the most outstanding companies in India. He has been a member on the Board of Directors of several corporations like LIC, DCM, TCIL, and institutions like CSIR, IMI, IIM Calcutta and IIM Lucknow. Dr Ahmad is a founder member and Fellow of the Indian Society of Training and Development, and the Indian Society of Applied Behavioural Science. He was Chairman, All India Board of Management Education. The Association of Indian Management Schools honoured him with the award of Ravi Mathai National Fellowship for ‘Life-Time Service to Management Education’. At present he is Chairman of the Aga Khan Foundation (India), an international development agency with headquarters in Geneva.

Professor Sarosh Jehangir Ghandy is JRD Tata Professor of Business Ethics, XLRI Jamshedpur. He served as Managing Director of Telco Construction Equipment Ltd., Bangalore (a part of the Tata Group of Companies) from 1999 to 2002. Ghandy has also served as a Special Advisor to the Chairman of Telco Construction Equipment Company Limited for a year. He has strong people-orientation values. Ghandy serves as a Fellow Member of three premier institutions - the Institute of Engineers, India, the Institute of Indian Foundry men, and the Institute of Standards Engineers, India. Professor V Panduranga Rao is the Chief Academic Advisor, ICFAI, since 2007. Prior to this, he was appointed as the first Vice Chancellor, ICFAI University, Dehradun, Uttrakhand. Professor Rao is also the Founding Director of ICFAI Business School, Hyderabad. He was responsible for building a unique All India Management Institution operating at 18 cities on the lines of Hub and Spoke System. Dr Vijay Chandru, Chairman and CEO, Strand Life SciencesVijay Chandru is an academic turned entrepreneur. Known for his passion for people and process, Sanjeev Jain is an inclusive leader who built GE Money Servicing  (GEMS) from a 900-member team in Hyderabad, India to a 3000-member team supporting global servicing centres across Bangalore, Guatemala, Gurgaon, Hyderabad and Manila. Jain’s energetic and high performing teams that are customer-centric, speak volumes for his external focus which helped expand the range of services from mere customer service operations to high end analytics. Under his stewardship, the GE Volunteer Hyderabad Chapter’s activities and contributions increased significantly. That got him the President’s Award. Currently he is the India Leader for GE Volunteers. He holds a Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering from Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad, and a Master’s in Industrial Engineering from National Institute of Industrial Engineering, Mumbai. Shakti Sagar, Managing Director, ADP India Shakti Sagar is the Managing Director of ADP Pvt. Ltd., a fully owned subsidiary of Automatic Data Processing, Inc USA with revenues of nearly USD 9 Billion. He has over thirty years of cross-function experience in the Office Automation & Information Technology industry. He has worked with start-up ventures and played a major role in the successes of these organisations. Sagar plays a very active role in industry forums. He is the Vice-Chairman of Confederation of Indian Industry, Andhra Pradesh and has been the Convener of the IT & C panel, Confederation of Indian Industry, Andhra Pradesh for the last four years. He is also the Past President of the Hyderabad Software Exporter’s Association (HYSEA) and Past President of the Hyderabad Chapter of the American Chamber Of Commerce. Dr Rakesh Khurana, Chairman, Knowledge Network India (P) LtdDr Rakesh Khurana, Chairman, Knowledge Network India (P) Ltd, has been an academic entrepreneur. He was the founder Program Director of IMI, New Delhi, Director – School of Management studies and Pro Vice Chancellor – IGNOU, where he developed content for management courses which became the single largest distance education programme .He was Chairman of committees which launched admission tests for management and other disciplines (CAT/ MAT) in the 70’s/80’s and was faculty with IIM (A). He also founded in 1994 a society-AMES, a division of which ATS-Aptitude Testing Services conducted tests for over 45 universities and institutions for UG/PG level and corporates in over a dozen disciplines. Dr Prasad Kaipa, Executive Director – Centre for Leadership, Innovation and Change Management, ISB Dr Prasad Kaipa splits his time between his role as the Executive Director of the Centre for Leadership, Innovation  and Change (CLIC) at Indian School of Business, Hyderabad and Kaipa Group consulting practice in California. CLIC is a centre of excellence focussing on integral approach (marrying lessons from wisdom traditions to traditional management approaches and scientific approaches) to develop innovative global leaders. CLIC recently received multi year funding to initiate two research cells – SBI Cell for Public Leadership and Biocon Cell for Innovation Management. Dr Kaipa has been an advisor and coach focussing on innovation and leadership since 1990 for over 110 CEOs, executive team members and board members in Fortune 500 companies like Disney, Adobe, Maxim Integrated Products, Boeing and also entrepreneurial/ international companies like Tata Steel, BAE Systems, State Bank of India, Lunar Design, Aztec, Mastek, Olixir, Scintera Networks, and Polaris. S V Nathan is the Vice President of Region 10 Human Resources of Deloitte Consulting since January 2005. In building a strong team that addresses all of R10’s needs, Nathan has implemented processes focussed on the timely delivery of the needs of internal clients. With over 22 years of professional experience in HR (manufacturing, services, telecom and information technology) and working with multinational as well as Indian entrepreneurial organisations, he is also a behavioral specialist in sensitivity training. Outside of his responsibilities in Region 10, Nathan serves as a director at Sumedhas, a not-for-profit education and research body on organisation development and speaks at national seminars on contemporary HR issues. Nathan has received the 2004 National Super Achiever Award for HR at a national level, by the Indira Group. He graduated in mathematics with a gold medal from Vivekananda College and was a topper at XLRI Jamshedpur, India’s prestigious business and Personnel Management Institute.

Professor N Ravichnadran holds a PhD in Applied Probability from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras. His areas of research include Competitive Strategy, Information Technology Strategy, Operations Management, Quantitative Methods, Applied Simulation and Stochastic Processes and their applications. His current research interests include stochastic models in management science, management information systems.

Professor M Rammohan Rao, Dean Emeritus, Indian School of Business Professor M Rammohan Rao was the Dean of the Indian School of Business (ISB) from July 1, 2004 to January 7, 2009. Prior to joining the ISB, he was Professor Emeritus at the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore. He held various positions at the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIM-B), including those of Professor, Visiting Professor, Dean and Director. He also taught as a tenured Professor of Operations Research at the Stern School of Business, New York University and at the Graduate School of Management, University of Rochester as an Associate Professor. He was a visiting faculty at the University of Tennessee. An illustrious academic, renowned worldwide for his research and teaching capabilities, Professor Rao has published over 85 articles in various professional journals. He has a PhD in Industrial Administration from the Graduate School of Industrial Administration, Carnegie-Mellon University. He completed two Masters degrees – Master of Science in Industrial Administration from Carnegie-Mellon University and Master of Engineering (Industrial) from Cornell University. Professor Bala Balachandran, Founder, Great Lakes
Professor Bala Balachandran began his teaching career in 1960 while a graduate student at Annamalai  University, India. In 1967 he moved to the University of Dayton and in 1971, to Carnegie-Mellon University, Pittsburgh, where he taught management courses while working on his doctorate. In 1973 he joined the Kellogg Graduate School of Management as faculty. From 1979-83 he chaired the Department of Accounting and Information Systems; in 1984 he was appointed Distinguished Professor of Accounting and Information Systems and Decision Sciences. He was also Director of the Accounting Research Centre. Professor Balachandran's teaching interests include managerial accounting, auditing, management information systems, and mathematical programming. He is one of three Kellogg faculty members who started the Information Resource Management Programme (IRM) at Northwestern in 1974. He has authored more than 55 research articles and is currently writing a managerial accounting textbook with emphasis on cost management in an automated manufacturing environment. Dr Sanjaya Baru, Consulting Senior Fellow, International Institute of Strategic Studies, London

Dr Sanjaya Baru joined LKY School of Public Policy at the National University of Singapore (NUS) after four years at the office of the Prime Minister of India, where he was designated as Media Advisor to Prime Minister and was also the Prime Minister’s spokesperson and principal speechwriter. Dr Baru’s research work has spanned a wide range of areas including Indian industrial, fiscal and trade policies and regional aspects of Indian development, with a focus on emergence of first generation business enterprise. He is a member of the Board of the Centre for Policy Research, New Delhi, and of the Committee on Economic Security, Confederation of Indian Industries. He is also a member of the CII-Aspen Strategy Group Dialogue on India-US Relations, and has been a participant in ‘Track Two Dialogues’ between India and China, Russia, Japan, European Union, Singapore. Dr Baru obtained his PhD and Masters Degree in Economics from the Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi and is a graduate of Osmania University, Hyderabad

Dr Ganesh Natarajan is Vice Chairman & CEO of Zensar Technologies, a Global firm that transforms technology and processes for Fortune 500 companies. He is also the President of the IT Sector and a member of the Management Board of the 3.25 billion USD RPG Group . Anand Sudarshan is MD and CEO, Manipal Education. He is based in Bangalore and he is responsible for all education businesses of Manipal Education & Medical Group. Prior to his current position, Sudarshan was President, Adea International (a wholly owned subsidiary of Adea Solutions, Inc, Dallas TX), responsible for all global (non-US) businesses of the IT Services & Solutions company. Sudarshan has served as a featured speaker at a number of industry business and technical events in Asia, Europe and the United States. He has authored several articles in leading trade publications and was named as one of the top ten stars of the Indian IT industry by Dataquest, a top Indian IT industry publication. He has a BE degree in communications engineering from the National Institute of Technology, University of Madras, and a PGDM (MBA) degree from the Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta.
Plenary Session III: The Road Ahead
Ajit Rangnekar, Dean , Indian School of Business  Ajit Rangnekar is the Dean of the Indian School of Business (ISB). Prior to taking charge as Dean, he was the Deputy Dean of the ISB from March 2003 to January 2009, and was instrumental in strengthening the School’s relationships with the external stakeholders - industry, policy makers, entrepreneurs, and experts. Rangnekar has a background spanning over thirty years in Consulting and Industry across different countries in Asia. Before joining the ISB, he was the Country Head, first for Price Waterhouse Consulting and then for PwC Consulting, in Hong Kong and the Philippines. He was head of the Telecom and Entertainment Industry Consulting practice for PwC in East Asia (China to Indonesia). He worked with Associated Cements Companies, India (1970 to 1981) prior to moving to Hong Kong. Rangnekar holds an undergraduate degree from the Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai, before completing his post graduation in Management from the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad. Dr Shekhar Chaudhuri, Director IIM Calcutta Dr Shekhar Chaudhuri joined his alma-mater IIM Ahmedabad in 1981, as an Assistant Professor in the Business Policy Area. He has been associated with IIM Ahmedabad as a faculty member since then. In November 2002 he joined IIM Calcutta as the Director and is currently in his second term as the Director. Dr Chaudhuri has held faculty and administrative positions in several institutions of higher learning in his long career. During August 1989 – August 1991 he was a Visiting Professor in the Department of Management, College of Business and Administration, Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, Illinois, USA; Visiting Professor in the Strategy, Organisation and Human Resources Group at ESCP – Paris School of Management during October – December, 1998; and Dean of the Vinod Gupta School of Management, IIT, Kharagpur during the period May 2000 to December 2001. Dr Chaudhuri’s teaching and research interests are in the areas of strategic management, management of technology and innovation and international management. He has published a number of research based papers in national and international journals and has presented several papers in several national and international conferences. He has also co-authored a book titled Entry Strategies and Growth in Foreign Markets published by Oxford. Srini Koppolu, Managing Director, Microsoft India
Srini Koppolu joined Microsoft in February 1989. Throughout his career in the company he has been involved in  many path breaking initiatives. He was instrumental in setting up the Microsoft India Development Cenre (MSIDC) which is Microsoft’s largest product development centre outside the US. Under Koppolu’s leadership, Microsoft intends to continue to increase its R&D investments in India to tap into talent and market opportunities. Koppolu helped define Microsoft’s global development strategy partnering with leaders of China and Israel development centres and many MS senior executives. He has made significant progress in transforming MSIDC’s charter around a few key Focus Areas (key technology and/or business initiatives of the company). He has built a strong brand for MSIDC as an organisation focussed on core product development and the primary destination for India’s top talent. In addition, Koppolu has been partnering with the rest of the India Leadership team in successfully evangelising the contribution and the impact Microsoft has on India. Dr R Natarajan, former Chairman - AICTE and former Director - IIT MadrasProfessor R Natarajan was till November, 2004, The Chairman of The All India Council for Technical Education, a statutory body of the Government of India. Before that he served as the Director of the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras from 1995 to 2001. He has worked as a National Research Council Research Fellow in Canada, and as a Humboldt Research Fellow in Germany. He is currently the Co-Chairman of the Engineering Education Forum of the Indian National Academy of Engineering and the Chairman of the Board for IT Education Standards of Karnataka. He received his PhD and MA Sc degrees from the University of Waterloo, Canada; the ME Degree of the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore; and the BE Degree of the Mysore University. Srinivasan K Swamy is the Chairman and Managing Director of R K Swamy BBDO Private Limited, India. He .jpg) joined the agency in 1978 as an Account Executive and rose to become the CEO in 1986. Having served three terms as the President of the Advertising Agencies of India (AAAI), he is credited with steering the advertising industry to new heights. He is also a Governing Council member of the Advertising Standards Council of India. Swamy has been actively involved in many social projects like running of Hindu Mission Hospital at Chennai for over 18 years now, the last 6 years as its President. He is also the Vice Chairman of Valluvar Gurukulam Society involved in running schools for poor girls.

Dean Dipak Jain, Kellogg School of Management on Globalisation of management education and the Indian context
Dipak Jain is distinguished teacher and scholar and is the Dean of the Kellogg School of Management since July 2001.  Dean Jain is the Sandy and Morton Goldman Professor in Entrepreneurial Studies and a Professor of Marketing at the Kellogg School, where he has been a member of the faculty since 1987. Dean Jain’s areas of research include the marketing of high-tech products; market segmentation and competitive market structure analysis; cross-cultural issues in global product diffusion; new product diffusion; and forecasting models. He has more than 50 articles published in leading academic journals.
