Strategic Leadership skills for Top Management
A reputed, diversified Indian group, with interests in automobiles, farm equipments, telecom consultancy, finance, resorts etc., and with a turnover of over Rs. 5000 Crore, wanted ISB to partner in the development and delivery of an intervention for its top management, comprising of the Managing Directors of each Business entity and the Corporate top management team. The objective was to build the strategic leadership skills of the group, to help them create and nurture a global Indian MNC.

A detailed learning needs analysis was conducted with the top management, HR and a cross-section of participants.

The learning needs analysis identified that the participants required inputs in: Global and Indian business environment, Strategic management process, tools and frameworks, Competitive Advantage, Multi business strategies, Evaluating strategic options, and Strategy Implementation. For implementing strategy, the leadership areas of change and transformation were to be addressed. Inputs were to be provided on Change Management, Leadership Styles, Transformational Leadership, Motivation and Team building. Participants were to formulate action plans for implementation, at the end of the intervention.

The five-day intervention was designed to address the above issues with two distinct, but related, themes:
  • Strategic Thinking and Management
  • Change Management and Leadership
Eminent faculty from Wharton and University of Minnesota conducted the strategy module of the programme, while a leading consultant and practitioner of Leadership Skills facilitated the leadership sessions.

The pedagogy was interactive discussions, based largely on relevant global case studies. The basic thrust was to relate the concepts and discussions to the organisational context, with special reference to the achievement and sustenance of the objectives. The programme was meant as much for team building and creation of an action plan to which the entire team was committed, as it was for exposure to state-of-the-art management thinking.

360 degree evaluation was done for the participants prior to the programme and individual feedback and action-plans were drawn out during the programme.
