Case Development

Genesis

In 2008 ISB began to develop India-centric business cases in partnership with the Richard Ivey School of Business (Ivey), The University of Western Ontario.

The rationale was to develop case-material with an in-depth understanding of the local business environment, and address business and managerial issues pertaining to the fast-growing economies of the East. The ISB, with its strong industry relationships, world-class faculty, and contemporary regional insights, is ideally positioned to generate a substantial body of compelling and lead-generating cases, relevant to Indian businesses.

Case Innovation: CaseAPPS

Besides traditional cases, the CTLC has initiated CaseAPPS, which are cases bundled with an analytical tool or method.  These cases focus on business decisions that were made based on specific analysis completed, and give students a “hands-on” experience of running the same analysis separately. These tools will be run on commonly available platforms such as Excel or SPSS

Case-related Activities
  • Develop and promote high-quality case studies, specific to India and the emerging markets, with the support of ISB faculty as well as faculty from other leading B-schools world-wide

  • Conduct annual workshops to enhance case writing and case teaching skills. The workshops train and support faculty from ISB, as well as other leading business schools in the region, to write and teach Indian / emerging economy cases

  • Market and distribute cases to business schools worldwide, in collaboration with leading case publishing houses like Ivey, Harvard, and Darden

  • Provide case development support to leading B-school faculty and case writers, who co-author cases with ISB faculty. This includes editorial, research and technological support during the case writing process

Partners

This initiative has been set up in partnership with the Richard Ivey School of Business, The University of Western Ontario (Ivey), Canada. Ivey Publishing is the second largest producer of business case studies after Harvard, and the largest producer of Asian case studies in the world. Together with Ivey, ISB proposes to enhance world-class case writing capability in India through annual case writing workshops conducted by leading experts in the field. This partnership is also aimed at publication of a series of business case studies with an 'India' focus. These ISB-Ivey cases are marketed and distributed to a global audience of business schools through Ivey and Harvard Publishing (Harvard University, USA)—the two largest sources of business cases in the world.
