“The challenges of tackling poverty, making growth more inclusive, and evolving a sustainable model of development” – these are the objectives Prime Minister Narendra Modi articulated for his new term in his address to the BRICS Summit 2014. Central to this vision is a viable growth momentum. The engines of a solid infrastructure base, a dynamic manufacturing sector and a healthy and productive workforce, coupled with public policy, are the drivers of sustainable growth and development.
Yet, sustained growth has faced numerous roadblocks over the last decade – ranging from delays and cost overruns in infrastructure projects, to skill bottlenecks and regulatory hurdles in manufacturing expansion and a demographic dividend hobbled by poor health and human development indicators. What is the role of knowledge hubs and research institutions in shaping an evidence-based public policy agenda for energising these drivers of growth? How can government and industry partner for progress in overcoming obstacles in the way of India’s growth momentum? The Conclave aims to address these and related questions.
