Third Asian Invitational Conference on Family Business

The Third Asian Invitational Conference on Family Business was organized at the ISB during February 4 – 6, 2011 under the Thomas Schmidheiny Chair of Family Business and Wealth Management with “Future of Family Business – Challenges and Strategies across Generations” as the theme. Day one had an Academic Conference where 20 cases were presented by academics from India. As part of it, a workshop on Case method in the context of family business was conducted by Professor K Ramachandran(ISB), Professor Charles Dhanraj (ISB) and Professor Ajay Bhalla, Cass Business School, London. Days Two and Three were devoted to a business conference where eminent speakers like Dr. Frank Stangenberg-Haverkamp (E.Merck KG, Germany), Dr. Dieter Spalti (Spectrum Value Management Ltd, Switzerland), and Dr. Manu Chandaria (Comcraft, Kenya) shared their experiences on different themes. Coffee with Professor Ram – A Stimulating Chat with industry leaders, December 18, 2009

The Chair conducted an interactive session with leading family business heads from the country. The stimulating chat was hosted by Professor Ramachandran and covered an interesting facet of family owned businesses - how they took a quantum leap to become powerful corporations. The conference detailed the growth paths of various companies in India and the Middle East.

Second Asian Invitational Conference on Family Business

To understand the unique challenge faced by family businesses in Asia, the Indian School of Business (ISB) recently hosted the Second Invitational Conference on Family Business. The theme of the Conference was ‘Building a lasting Family Business- Dream to Reality’. The three days of interactions and thought provoking sessions, proved to be a great platform for sharing insights and intensifying dialogues about topics related to Family Business. Academia from around the globe, family business owners, professionals, researchers, family business advisors and policy makers came together to perpetuate thoughts on how to develop and sustain entrepreneurship in business families, how to manage transitions across generations, what are the challenges of writing a constitution, family philanthropy, how to balance freedom and control, qualities of an effective board member, among other themes.
