What does the behavioural lab do?
The Behavioural Lab is a facility that assists in administering behavioural research on business and management-related topics. The Lab is equipped with 12 computers connected to the Internet, located at the ISB Campus, for administering online research studies and experimental research. The lab can also arrange for transportation of research subjects from the Behavioural Lab subject pool to the computer lab as required. Behavioural Lab also assists in administering paper and pencil based surveys and research studies outside the lab.

Who can carry out research at the Behavioral lab?
All faculty members and researchers at ISB are welcome to conduct studies in the lab. ISB partner school’s faculty can also use the lab facility.
How much does the lab cost?
Behavioural lab is a resource to assist faculty and researchers at ISB and therefore there is no cost attached for using the facility, however,
- If you would like to use the subject pool of Behavioural lab and would and run the experiment in the lab, please write to the Manager, Behavioural Lab at K_jayashree@isb.edu
- The lab can arrange for transportation of research subjects from the existing Behavioural Lab subject pool to the ISB campus as required.
- Transportation charges/snacks /Tea-coffee to the participants will be charged to the research budget of the Faculty/ Researcher
- If you wish to administer paper-pencil based surveys, the administrative cost involved here would be photocopying of the questionnaires which will be charged to the Faculty’s /Researcher’s research budget
- Incentives(Gift Coupons/Cash), Coffee/Snacks/ Lunch to the students will be charged the research budget of the Faculty/Researcher
What type of studies can I run?
Online research studies and experimental research, paper and pencil based surveys and research studies outside the lab.(Field Surveys).
Please make sure that your research study/ survey has prior approval from the ISB-IRB to administer it through the Behavioural Lab.
How do I receive guidance regarding setting up a new study?
The manager- Behavioural lab is happy to offer assistance and guidance to any researcher interested in running a study in the lab. The Manger can advise regarding the logistics of running a study, sourceing subject pool as per the requirement of researcher, but does not have expertise on all experimental designs. How do I attract participants at ISB?
We have an active database of employees and student spouse as participants. Once your study has been set up in the participant sign-up system, time-slots will be created, an email will be sent advertising your study, and participants will be free to sign up for an available time-slot. Typically, time-slots will fill up within an hour.
How do I get participants outside ISB ?
Behavioural lab has a student subject pool and an employee subject pool outside ISB. Student Subject pool is drawn from various UG/PG Colleges in and around Hyderabad, affiliated to Osmania university and JNTU. Employee subject pool is from companies in Hyderabad. Please write to the Manager, Behavioural Lab at K_jayashree@isb.edu for details on the available subject pool or for a specific subject pool requirement.
How much will I have to pay participants?
Participants must be paid a minimum of Rs 100- 150 up to 30 minutes, incentives are not necessarily linear with time, depends on the study. Participants can be paid in either cash or gift vouchers.
How do I organise participant payments?
If you would like to withdraw cash from your research budget you ( your research assistant/faculty assistant) must complete a cash advance form available with the ISB- Finance department who will issue you a cheque/cash through which incentives can be purchased and can be handed over to the manager- Behavioural Lab. Payments will be given to participants once they have completed their participation and signed a payment receipts form. Transportation charges of the subjects to ISB campus/snacks /Tea-coffee to the participants, photocopying charges of questionnaires will be charged to the research budget of the Faculty/ Researcher. If the researcher has a study that includes extra financial incentives, then he /she would be responsible for keeping track of how much each person should be paid, and making sure the right amount of money to pay the participants. The Behavioural lab has no cash reserves.

Do you offer any IT/programming assistance?
The IT Customer support services help with general IT issues, as well as advising on available software applications in the lab. We do not currently offer any programming support.
Will I receive any support on the day of my study?
The Manager- Behavioural lab will be present during the course of your study to ensure everything is set up correctly. An IT engineer will also be present during the study. Research assistants of your specific projects are welcome to the lab, to effectively manage your study, welcome and sign in participants at the beginning of each time-slot, and to debrief and pay them at the end.
How do I know when the lab is available?
The lab is open on Mondays-Fridays between 8.00am and 5.00pm. please write to the Lab Manager to reserve the Lab.
How do I book lab space?
You can book space at the Lab by writing to the Manager- Behavioural lab at: firstname.lastname@example.org.
How do I get research ethics approval?
All research in the Behavioural lab needs to have approval from the ISB- Institutional review Board (IRB) Committee. Information on IRB can be found here
If you complete the research ethics to each of the questions ,and submit the IRB form The IRB committee will review your completed form and the review your questionnaire and will grant approval.
