Professor of the Year Award
The Professor of the Year Award at the ISB is a platform to
celebrate outstanding teaching, and to express the students’
gratitude to the professor who creates an unequivocal
impression on the student body. This award is in recognition
not only of excellence in teaching, but also the ability to
motivate students, and create a passionate interest in the
respective subject.
Each
student nominates one professor for the Core Terms and one
for the Elective Terms. The results are tallied and
announced to the ISB community before the Award ceremony
which is held on the eve of the Graduation Day.
Professor Rakesh V Vohra, Kellogg School of
Management, was the students’ choice for the Core Courses
and Professor Oded Sarig, The Wharton School of
Business, for the Elective Courses.
On receiving the award, Professor Vohra remarked, “I am
both surprised and please to get this award. The quality of
faculty who teach at the ISB is rather high. So, I was
`gob-stopped' to be singled out in this way. I have taught
at the ISB twice, and on both occasions it has been a
marvellous experience. The students are extremely competent.
Full of fire and hungry for understanding and that makes
teaching fun. That the current crop got a lot out of the
course is a testament to how much they put in.
I
taught the second half of the Managerial Economics class. It
covers what an economist would call‘ imperfect competition’-
which is a rather dull description for an incredibly
interesting topic, specifically, how firms should and do
compete. Within the `wooden O' of the classroom one gets to
recreate the clash of commercial armies. I benefited a great
deal from the heavy lifting of ISB Professor Amit Bubna, who
taught the first half of the course and prepared the
students well. He did the set up and I got to deliver the
punch-line.”
“It gives me a great pleasure to be so honored! I have enjoyed being with such a wonderful class and knowing that this was not just a one-sided feeling is very gratifying. I wish the whole class much success in developing successful and satisfying careers”, was Professor Sarig’s reaction to the
presentation of the award.
