Class of 2007 Walk the ISB Graduation Aisle
The Indian School of Business (ISB) celebrated its Sixth
Graduation Day for the Class of 2007 on April 7, 2007 at the
classy venue of AC 6 Lawns, on campus. The day marked the
end of an eventful academic calendar - a salute to the
year’s achievements and mile stones.
This year, 416 students were awarded certificates for the
Post Graduate Programme in Management. The Chief Guest for
this memorable ceremony, Montek Singh Ahluwalia, Deputy
Chairman, Planning Commission, gave away the certificates to
the students, amidst cheering parents, visitors and friends.
The day’s function started with the traditional procession
of the students donning the symbolically coloured graduation
gowns and mortarboards, all representing the sobriety and
dignity of academic regalia.
Addressing the gathering, Dean Rao, said, “It
is a very special moment for us, as the Class of 2007
graduates today. Our students have played a pivotal role in
the progress of the School and the Class of 2007 has
shouldered its responsibility in an excellent manner.” The
Dean detailed out the high achievements of the last academic
year- innovations in curriculum, exchange programmes,
events, awards, placements, etc.
Ahluwalia in his inspiring address traced the journey of
the ISB “from a dream to a vision to a reality.” He said
that the graduates were the “stars of the convocation
ceremony” and congratulated them for their “outstanding
feats and extraordinary placements”.
He urged the students not to limit their management
applications only to the corporate sector but to apply them
to all sectors which require huge management inputs. One
needs to be “nimble and flexible” in order to meet the real
world outside, suggested Singh. He pointed out that it is
not so much “experience and seniority” that makes leaders
today but it is the “ability to take risks and think out of
the box.”
Chairman Rajat Gupta added to the proud moment and said,
“Today all your diligent efforts are being recognised. Take
every opportunity to go beyond your immediate jobs and be
true ambassadors of the ISB vision and mission.” He stressed
on inculcating the “life long learning mind set”. “A
B-school helps you prepare to learn more in your careers,
“he said. He also advised the graduating class to take every
opportunity to lead and hoped that the lessons of leadership
learnt at the ISB, during the course, would help them seek
leadership opportunities.
At the ceremony were also honoured the ISB Scholars of
Excellence, V Subramanian and Suneet Gupta, for their
exceptional academic performance .The top 10 percent of the
Class who made it to the Dean’s List for their distinctive
performance in various activities, were also given their
dues on stage, amidst applause and good wishes.
Assistant Dean- PGP, Savita Mahajan proposed the Vote of
Thanks, before the jubilant crowd moved to the School Atrium
for lunch.
The day could not have ended without the nostalgic and
quintessentially ISBian Hat Toss and Gown Drop ceremonies.
Indeed, as an anonymous quote says- ‘The end of a beginning
– that is Graduation Day! |
