Recognising Teaching Excellence

Faculty of the Year

Each year students of the PGP and PGPMAX at ISB have a tradition of honouring their favourite professor who has/ have had made a difference by voting for the Professor of the Year for the ‘core’ and ‘elective’ terms. This year onwards, they are joined by the MFAB students who have chosen their favourite Professor. The election is based on a preferential nomination system and is an acknowledgement of the excellence of the professor as their teacher, guide and mentor. It is also a way for the students to express their gratitude to the professor whose superlative teaching and mentoring skills created an unequivocal impression on them.

Congratulations to our Professors who exemplify excellence in teaching and help shape the lives and careers of these leaders of tomorrow.

Professor Achal Bassamboo - Professor of the Year Award for Core Courses 2015

"While teaching DMOP I was able to observe the dedication and drive to learn among ISB students. In the third week, we had optional review sessions for the course. Given the tight schedule, some of these review sessions had to be late in night and very early in the morning. Most of the students came to these review sessions irrespective of their schedule. Working with my students during theses review sessions is the most memorable moment from this year's teaching. In fact, I refer to ISB campus as "the campus that does not sleep", says Professor Achal Bassamboo.

“ It’s about his excellent teaching skills and devotion. He ensured that each of his students understand the concept. He kept multiple extra classes which went till late in the night.”, said one of his students complimenting the Professor .

Professor Piyush Kumar  - Professor of the Year, 2015 for Elective Courses

"My most memorable moment this year was trepidation-filled minute when I realized that the little yellow slips stuck on the board in the student cafeteria were post-it notes with student comments.  It instantly brought back memories of opening the report card at the end of every year during my student days.  I'll always remember that moment. Sometimes, even if it is on a Post-it, it sticks", says Professor Piyush Kumar.

“His unorthodox research and teachings on conventional knowledge really made us challenge the conventional way of looking at things,” one of his students said, celebrating his election.

PGPMAX Class of 2014: Professor of the Year Award

Students of the PGPMAX Class of 2014 have elected Professor Sunil Chopra as the ‘Professor of the Year ‘for his exceptional teaching of the course ‘Global Operations’.

"Dear PGPMAX Class of 2014, I am delighted and honored to have been selected by you as Professor of the year. This award has particular meaning coming from a group like you because you have significant work experience through which to view my comments in class. Executive MBA students have always been a favorite of mine to teach because I learn far more in class than anything I teach. This was certainly the case with all of you and I have very fond memories of the week I spent with you in Mohali. I am sorry I am unable to attend this happy occasion because of prior commitments.
I wish you the very best as you continue your career journey after ISB. I hope you take a slightly different perspective to every issue you face after your time in the program. In particular, do not forget to grow the net value created in everything you do. Creating more value than one extracts is ultimately the key to satisfaction and success. I will always be cheering for you and look forward to keeping in touch. Good luck.", says Professor Sunil Chopra.

You also leave the program at a very exciting time for India where the right kind of leadership from people like you can have a significant impact on the future.
