Pradeep Singh
CEO Mohali Campus and Deputy Dean, ISB

Pradeep Singh has over 35 years of work experience in government, non-government and private sector organisations, and in academia. Since August 2013, Pradeep Singh has been the CEO of the Mohali Campus and the Deputy Dean of the Indian School of Business (ISB), an institute established in partnership with The Kellogg School of Management, The Wharton School and London Business School. He is responsible for denationalising the recently launched four Institutes at ISB dedicated respectively to Infrastructure, Manufacturing, Healthcare, and Public Policy. The Infrastructure and Manufacturing Institutes are being established in collaboration with Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), the Healthcare Institute in collaboration with the Wharton School, and the Public Policy Institute in partnership with the Fletcher School of International Diplomacy. In his previous roles, Pradeep Singh served as the Vice Chairman & CEO of IDFC Projects Ltd. and was the founding CEO of IL&FS Infrastructure Development Corporation (IIDC). He oversaw the development of infrastructure projects in Public Private Partnership formats in collaboration with State and Central Governments in various sectors including Roads, Ports, Airports, Water Supply and Sewage systems, e-Governance, Industrial Parks and Tourism. He has worked in the commercialised infrastructure sector and in the field for 16 Years. From 1978 to 1995, Pradeep Singh was a member of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) and later also served as the Assistant Country Director at CARE India, an international NGO. He has been a visiting faculty member at the Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University and has been engaged in consulting for the World Bank and the ADB. Mr. Singh holds a Masters Degree in Public Administration (MPA) from Harvard University and was a Rotary International Graduate Fellow at Stanford University USA. He also holds the MBA and M.Sc (Physics) degrees from Punjab and Punjabi University respectively.

Shashank Tripathi

He has provided expert consultation to multiple organisations in the industrial products, aerospace and defence, automotive, retail and consumer, and telecommunications industries. Shashank is also the Lead Partner for PwC’s Growth Market Centre in Singapore, which advises clients on concerns related to emerging markets. Shashank and his team recently led and published a report, Future of India: The Winning Leap, which explores what it would take for India to become the third-largest economy in world over the next 20 years. Shashank is also the author of “India: A Journey Through a Healing Civilization.” Before becoming a consultant, Shashank was the CEO of a company he founded and led for 4 years. He started his consulting career at Schlumberger, and now has more than 20 years of consulting experience. He worked in the UK for Accenture and Deloitte.
Shashank has a B.Tech from IIT-Delhi and an MBA with honors from IMD Lausanne.

Maj. Gen. Mrinal Suman (Retd.)
Defence Consultant

General Suman heads Defence Technical Assessment and Advisory Service (DTAAS) of Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). He has also been conducting and directing highly acclaimed Defence Acquisition Management Courses for Indian and foreign industry, both in India and abroad. He is a highly qualified and experienced officer. He is a B Tech in civil engineering. He did M Sc in Defence Studies in 1977 with Outstanding Grades and thereafter did Masters in Public Administration in 1982, standing first in the university. His academic pursuits culminated with his doing Doctorate in Public Administration. He commanded an Engineer Regiment in the most hostile battlefield in the world i.e. the Siachen Glacier and was awarded a gold medal for being ‘the most outstanding engineer of the year’. He was the Task Force Commander at Pokharan and was responsible for designing and sinking shafts for the nuclear tests, for which he was duly honoured by the President of India. He was the first Technical Manager [Land Systems] when the newly created Acquisition Wing was established in the Ministry of Defence in 2001. He has been closely associated with the evolution and promulgation of the new defence procurement mechanism. Today, he is considered to be the foremost expert on myriad aspects of India’s defence procurement regime and is regularly consulted with regard to proposed reforms. His views are sought by the policy makers including Parliamentary Committee on Defence. He is regularly invited to address, both in India and abroad, various chambers, associations and industrial delegations on various facets of defence procurement policies, offsets and business opportunities existing in the defence sector. The General is a prolific writer. His articles are regularly published in a large number of journals, his views command immense respect, both in India and abroad, and have been translated in many languages. He has published over 200 papers suggesting reforms to inject more professionalism in the acquisition process and to upgrade India’s defence industry. 

Air Marshal Sukhchain Singh AVSM, VSM
Defence Consultant

Air Marshal Sukhchain Singh AVSM, VSM was commissioned in the Aeronautical Engineering (Electronics) branch of the Indian Air Force in July1979. He till recently was the Air Officer-in-charge Maintenance (AOM) at Air HQ, New Delhi before his retirement on Oct 2015. He is an alumnus of Regional Engineering College (now NIT), Kurukshetra as Gold Medallist in BE (Hons), Electronics and Communication from where he graduated in the year 1979. An M Tech from IIT Delhi in Integrated Electronics & Circuits and alumnus of the prestigious Defence Services Staff College, Wellington.  Other academic qualifications include M Sc in Defence Studies from Madras University and MBA in Operations Research from IGNOU. The Air Marshal has rich and varied experience in the maintenance management of fighter aircraft, radars and guided weapons. During his distinguished career spanning 37 years, he has held several important field and staff assignments in India & abroad. He has been the Senior Maintenance Staff Officer of an operational Air Command and Maintenance Command of IAF before assuming the appointment of Air Officer-in-Charge Maintenance at Air Headquarters in Nov 2014. The Air Marshal was at the helm of affairs responsible for all maintenance & logistics decision making for the Indian Air Force. During his service career, he has visited foreign countries including Israel, Iran, France, UK and Russia for various Defence Cooperation. He was an Invitee member of the HAL Board of Directors during 2014-15. For his distinguished service and devotion to duty of an exceptional order in the IAF, he was awarded the President’s Ati Vishisht Seva Medal in Jan 2015 and Vishisht Seva Medal in Jan1999.  For his professionalism he was also commended by the Chief of the Air Staff during 1997.

Ashok Wadhawan

He has previously worked in GE, India Forge & Tata International. Heading the manufacturing business for Punj Lloyd Group which has a state-of-the-art manufacturing and systems integration facility of at Malanpur, Ashok is responsible for the high-end precision manufacturing in Defence, Aviation, Energy (Nuclear, Hydro, Wind and Gas) and Oil & Gas. They are prime for defence products in land systems and Aero space components/ subsystems, as well as supplying machined and fabricated parts to OEM’s in the above industries.

Rajesh Kakkar
CEO, Global Strategic Technologies Ltd, JK Group

Rajesh Kakkar is the Chief Executive – Global Strategic Technologies Ltd., part of the USD 4 billion JK Organisation. The company drives JK Group’s initiative in the Aerospace, Defence and Homeland Security space. Apart from starting GST’s own initiatives and strategic partnerships with global players, he has led the acquisition of Delopt, a high technology company in Defence Electronics and Avionics and serves as Director on its Board. Having done his Chemical Engineering from IIT, Delhi in 1982, he followed it with an MBA from IIM, Ahmedabad in 1984. He started his career in sales and marketing with Grindwell Norton Ltd. and gained rich experience in diverse industrial products like abrasives, refractories and performance materials. He has also worked in different parts of the country and this experience has made him familiar with different people and practices. His years with ICI India Ltd. included a stint in explosives where his experience includes creating and fructifying a new business opportunity in a ‘commodity’ market. His other assignments in ICI included corporate affairs and as business head for catalysts. As Vice President - Strategic Planning & Business Development with the Samtel group, a pioneer and leader in picture tubes in India, his role involved strategic planning, environment scanning and implementation. Samtel’s acquisition of Thales’ CRT unit in Germany is one such example, a relatively rare example of an Indian company taking over a high tech company in a developed country and becoming an Indian MNC. He was responsible for the group’s foray into avionics and defense displays. Samtel’s joint venture with the India’s major aircraft maker, HAL marked a new landmark in this business. He formed a joint venture with Thales to expand Samtel’s defense business to the global market. He served on the Board of both JVs and on the National Advisory Committee of SCDT, a public-private initiative between Samtel and IIT, Kanpur.

David Moore

Dr David Moore was until late 2014 the Director of the Centre for Defence Acquisition, with Cranfield University, at the Defence Academy of the United Kingdom. He now works for Cranfield University, at the Defence Academy, on a consultancy basis. He worked in purchasing, logistics and supply chain management within public sector and commercial organisations before entering academia, with the University of Glamorgan, where he developed and delivered Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (CIPS) courses for organisations such as British Airways, London Underground and the Civil Service College. These were followed by the development and leadership of the MBA full time and part time programmes, as well as the MBA ‘by Directed Learning in Bahrain.’  In 1996, he joined Cranfield University, where he initiated the BSc (Hons) Management and Logistics course and then the MSc Defence Logistics Management.  Subsequently he designed, developed and delivered the MSc Defence Acquisition Management course. David has undertaken extensive education, training, and consultancy assignments in the UK, USA, Europe, Middle East and Far East for organisations such as Ministries and Departments of Defence, Shell, British Gas, NHS, Welsh Office, Gibraltar Health Authority, Coca Cola, Qatar Steel and the Arab Ship Repair Yard. He regularly speaks at conferences and events around the globe. He most recently organised the 25th Annual International Education Arrangement on Acquisition (IDEAA) conference. His research interests include international defence procurement relationships, strategic procurement management, contract management,outsourcing, the use of contractors for service provision, small to medium enterprise contributions to innovation and particularly developing defence procurement, logistics and supply chain effectiveness through professionalism and the development of a relevant Defence Acquisition Body of Knowledge.  He has written a number of books and book chapters plus many conference and journal papers. As well as his Doctorate, David has an MBA, Fellowship of Chartered Institutes, and teaching and management qualifications.David served in the Royal Logistic Corps (TA) until 1999 where as a Lt Colonel he commanded a Regiment and also held Staff appointments.

Inderjit Sial

Inderjit Sial is the president and managing director of Textron India Private Limited, which is a wholly owned subsidiary of Textron Inc., headquartered at Providence, Rhode Island, U.S.A. Inderjit joined Textron India in October 2012. He is responsible for advancing Textron’s globalisation strategy within the region as well as overseeing the business development and sourcing efforts from Indian industries for all Textron companies. He manages Textron’s overall relationship with the Indian government and its various agencies. He works closely with Textron’s aerospace and industrial businesses to identify and execute growth opportunities across India. He is also responsible to ensure that Textron's Engineering Centre in Bangalore continues to provide state-ofthe-art engineering solutions to Textron's global operating units. Prior to joining Textron India, Sial was managing director of SAAB India Technologies, a position he held since 2010. He joined SAAB in 2008 as vice president - Industrial Cooperation. At SAAB, he was responsible for government relations as well as business development for a broad range of product lines including civil, defense and aerospace. He was instrumental in establishing industrial partnerships and joint ventures with various Indian industries. Prior to his role at SAAB, Inderjit held a number of positions in the aerospace and defense trade arena, including country head of Sukab AB, from 1989 to 1993, as well managing his own entrepreneurial venture, Rollscon, involved in trade development, industrial cooperation and offset, from 1995 to 2008. Sial holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce from Delhi University and an M.B.A. in Trade Finance from the University of California, Los Angeles, U.S.A

Rajinder Bhatia

Rajinder Singh Bhatia, a gold medallist from Punjab University, is an engineer with a post-graduation in Structures. Officer is a fellow of institute of Engineers and a member of All India Management Association and has done is Master Diploma in Management from Symbiosis and Masters in Management Studies from Osmania University. Bhatia has been an instructor and directing staff at College of Military Engineering, Indian Military Academy and College of Defence Management. He is a part of CII National Defence Council and FICCI National Committee on Defence. He is currently employed with Kalyani Group as Executive Vice President and is also the CEO of the flagship company ‘Bharat Forge’. 

Narendra Singh
Adjunct Assistant Professor, ISB

Narendra Singh holds a Ph.D. in Operations Management from Scheller College of Business, Georgia Institute of Technology. He also holds BE in Mechanical Engineering from National Institute of Technology (NIT) Jaipur and MBA in General Management from the XLRI, Jamshedpur. Prior to pursuing his Ph.D., he was a Scientist in Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), New Delhi. Narendra’s research interests are in closed-loop supply chains, remanufacturing, product returns management, supply chain contracting and new product development. His current research focuses on studying firms' product strategies in the face of supply chain complexities including consumer product returns, strategic consumer behavior and information asymmetry in supply chains. He taught Management Science at Georgia Tech.

Venkat Katkuri
Head – Airbus Defense and Space – India

Based in Delhi, the heart of India’s Defence industry, Venkat is leading the next phase of Airbus Defence and Space’s engagement with India. Prior, he was associated with Airbus Group as Head of former Astrium, India from August 2005 to Feb 2012, after which he joined SES, Singapore as Sales Director where he was responsible for South Asia region. Venkat has also worked with Antrix Corporation Ltd, Bangalore in the past. Venkat holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Electronics & Communications and has an MBA in Aerospace Management from ESC Toulouse and Masters in Space Studies from International Space University, Strasbourg.

Mr. I.V. Sarma has experience of over 38 years in the Electronics industry in India. His experience covers a number of functions including R&D, Manufacturing, Domestic and International business development, Project Management, Offsets Management, Strategic Planning, Setting up of factories, and formation of JVs.  He has worked in diverse fields of Electronics business covering Radars, Communication systems, C4I projects, Electronic Warfare,   Naval Systems, Optoelectronics, Electronic components, Telecommunications, Solar power and e-governance. Mr. Sarma was Director (R&D) in Bharat Electronics Ltd (BEL), a Navratna PSU, in the business of Defence Electronics, for over four years. He headed three units of BEL before becoming Director on its Board. He was also on the Board of BEL Optronics devices Ltd. As Director R&D at BEL, Mr. Sarma played a vital role in leading a team of 1800 engineers on path of self reliance in the field of Defence Electronics. Mr. Sarma was credited with many achievements in Development of technology, Product Development, Productivity improvements, and development of technical manpower. Under his leadership in R&D and technology development, BEL received several prestigious awards including the Raksha Mantri (Indian Defence Minister)’s awards for Innovation, Technology development and Import substitution, SCOPE awards for R&D and SODET awards. For his achievements, he received AOC’s award for Best contributor in the field of Electronic warfare in PSUs. Mr. Sarma was Chair of IRSI (International Radar Symposium of India) and Co-chair of EWCI. He continues to be on the advisory committees of IRSI and EWCI. He is also a member of the advisory committee of Project Management Institute.  Mr. Sarma has long association with the Defense Research and Development Organization, Other Research Labs in India and a number of  academic Institutions.  He is a Fellow of IETE. 

Anurag Garg
Director, Strategy, PwC

Anurag Garg is a Director with Strategy&, PwC’s strategy consulting group, and is based in Delhi NCR. He currently leads the Aerospace, Defence and Security practice, advising Indian and international companies looking to enter or expand in the defence sector. Prior to joining PwC, he worked with Diamond Consultants and ITC Ltd. His focus has been on market entry, growth, go-to-market strategies, and strategy execution in the defence, industrial products, retail and consumer, and technology spaces. He has led engagements in India, the U.S., and Europe. Anurag earned his MBA from the Indian School of Business and his B.Tech from IIT-Delhi.

Krishnamurthy Vaidyanathan

Vaidya Nathan is a Resident faculty at the Indian School of Business, Mohali. Prior to joining ISB, he was an Assistant Professor in Residence at the School of Business, University of Connecticut and continues to hold a Visiting Faculty position there. Before becoming an academic, he was an an Investment Banker with JPMorganChase Bank in Hong Kong, New York, and Singapore and has advised financial institutions and corporates in Asia-Pacific region on hedging and risk management. He specialises in Credit Derivative, Foreign Exchange and Fixed Income products. He has also advised corporates in Telecom, Media and Technology space on mergers and acquisitions, divestiture, acquisition financing, capital structure advisory, alternative investments, and debt restructuring. He later co-founded Quantum Phinance, of which he is currently the Chairman. He is on the advisory board of the Venture Capital initiative of SIDBI. He is also a Consultant with the World Bank. He holds a B.Tech in Electrical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kanpur, and an MBA from Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Ahmedabad. He is a certified Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) from the CFA Institute, Charlottesville, and a Financial Risk Manager (FRM) by the Global Association for Risk Professionals (GARP), New York. He holds a PhD in Finance and has done his Post Doctoral Fellowship from Leavey School of Business, Santa Clara University. Amit Cowshish
Fellow, IDSA

Amit Cowshish belongs to the Indian Defence Accounts Service (1977). He is a former Financial Advisor (Acquisition) & Additional Secretary, Ministry of Defence. He has been associated with defence planning, budget, revenue and capital procurements, and other matters concerning financial management in defence. He retired in 2012 as Additional Controller General of Defence Accounts. He holds M.A. and M. Phil. Degrees in Political Science from Jawaharlal Nehru University, a degree in law from Delhi University and a diploma in Alternative Dispute Resolution from the Indian Law Institute. He attended the Advanced Professional Programme in Public Administration at the Indian Institute of Public Administration in 1996 and the National Security and Strategic Studies programme at the National Defence College in 2000.
He is presently a Distinguished Fellow with the Institute for Defence Studies and Analysis, New Delhi and a Partner with Dua Associates, Advocates and Solicitors. He has written about 150 articles for various defence journals and websites on issues concerning financial management in defence, planning and budgeting, procurement policies and procedures, and civil-military relations.

Gourav Ray
VP Cyient Systems & Solutions Gourav is a Vice President of Cyient Systems & Solutions. He is an Aerospace and Defence manufacturing professional with over 20 years of managerial and leadership experience in. His previous experience includes key positions at MTAR Technologies and Uniparts India, playing a key role in CRM, business development, operations management, supply chain management, commercial affairs & business finance. Earlier in his career, Gourav was a Senior Operations Officer with Indian Army’s Aviation Corps.
Karan Avtar Singh

Sreeram MM

Sreeram is a serial entrepreneur with a strong background in Mechanical Engineering. Presently, he is leading four Aerospace and Defence focused ventures i.e. Scarlet Industries, Samuha Aerospace Engineering Industries, SEC Industries and AEROC Space Technologies. He serves as a member of a number of industry bodies such as Aerospace Industries Association (ASIA), FICCI, Indian Institute of Economics etc. Sreeram has also authored “Socioeconomic development plan" for both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana immediately after state bifurcation, in addition to many other documents and draft policies on industry & economy. He also regularly participates in televised debates on industry and economy issues.

Col. Rajiv Chib
Associate Director, PWC, India

Rajiv is an Associate Director with PricewaterhouseCoopers, India. He has served with the Ministry of Defence in India where his charter included capital acquisitions and defence offsets. He has been associated with India’s defence offset policy since its inception, as head of the DOFA (Defence Offset Facilitation Agency) Secretariat, in the Ministry of Defence and has considerable experience in the field of defence production and evaluation of offset proposals. He has been addressing a large number of defence and aerospace related forums in various states of the country as well as in the international arena, on varied subjects including regulatory and policy issues, defence industrial strategy, capital acquisitions and offsets. He was commissioned into the Indian Cavalry and has done his post-graduation in Defence Studies. His experience in the army includes conduct of counter insurgency operations in Northern and North Eastern India besides command of an Armored Regiment. He is an alumnus of Staff College, Wellington.

Col. Rajiv Bhargava
Associate Director, Munjal Institute for Global Manufacturing & Commercials, ISB

Col. Rajiv Bhargava has served with the Indian Army for over 20 years with Master’s Degree in Defence Strategy from Chennai University. He is an alumnus of ISB from the Class of 2011 with specialization in Finance and Strategy at ISB. He had helped set up the Munjal Institute for Global Manufacturing at ISB and is currently an Associate Director with the Institute. Rajiv has keen interest in the MSME sector and Defence procurement and is actively pursuing opportunities to find synergy in both sectors. He has been instrumental in organizing three national level seminars at ISB related to Defence Procurement and Defence Offsets. He has also edited the book, Perspectives on India’s Defence Offset Policy, published by Sage Publications.

Lt Gen JP Singh

Lt Gen (Retd) JP Singh is a third generation army officer. Commissioned in the Armoured Corps in June 1971, he took part in combat action as a troop leader on the Western front in the 1971 Indo-Pak war. The officer has commanded an Armoured Regiment , an Armoured Brigade, Armoured Division, Armoured Corps Centre and School and the largest Strike Corps. An ardent practioner of maneuver warfare, he is regarded as a leading thinker on future Armoured vehicle technologies and net enablement of land forces. The General is a post graduate in Military Sciences and M’Phil in Higher Defense Management. He has attended the Staff College, Senior and Higher Command Courses and the NDC course. He has taught the students in DSSC India and led the team to Zambia to teach students of nine Southern African countries.
The officer was the Deputy Chief of Integrated Defense Staff (Perspective Planning and Force Development) and Deputy Chief of Army (Planning and Systems) before he superannuated in Oct 2011. In these appointments, he was administrating the Armed Forces capability development strategy and plans. He was also the secretary of the Defense Acquisition Council. After superannuating from the Army, after over 40 years of distinguished service, he was appointed by the MoD as the Chief Consultant to the DRDO. He is holding this appointment for the last 4 years. The General is the military advisor to a leading magazine on strategic affairs and visiting fellow at Vivekananda International Foundation. For his exemplary service, twice the President of India awarded him.     

Lt Gen KJ Singh
AVSM **, GOC-in-C, Western Command

Lt Gen KJ Singh, AVSM** was commissioned in 63 Cavalry on 11 Jun 1977. The General Officer is an alumunus of National Defence Academy (Bronze Medal for Academics) and in addition to the mandatory courses, he has attended the National Defence Course (Awarded Col Pyare Lal Medal), Higher Command Course (Awarded Commandant’s Medal) and Defence Services Staff Course (Naval Staff Course-on Competitive Vacancy). He commanded his Regiment, a T-90 Armoured Brigade, an Armoured Division in the Strike Corps and an operationally committed Corps in Northeast. In a service career spanning over 37 years, the General Officer has served in Counter Insurgency areas (Nagaland, Manipur and Punjab), Para Military Forces (Assam Rifles) and with United Nations Peace Keeping Force in Angola. In his UN tenure, he served as the Chief Operations Officer and Team Commander. He has been awarded Chief of the Army Staff Commendation and UN Force Commander’s Citation for bravery for his UN tenure. He was also awarded Eastern Army Commander’s Commendation twice for his tenures in Nagaland & Manipur. The General Officer has been awarded AtiVishishtSeva Medal and Bar to AtiVishishtSeva Medal. The General Officer has held important staff appointments like Brigade Major of an Armoured Brigade, Assistant Military Secretary-Policy, Military Assistant to Deputy Chief of Army Staff, Colonel General Staff of Division in Counter Insurgency Operations, Brigadier General Staff of a Strike Corps and Additional Director General of Perspective Planning at Integrated HQ of Ministry of Defence (Army). The officer has also been an Instructor at School of Armoured Warfare and Directing Staff at the Higher Command Wing, Army War College. The General Officer enjoys golf and walking. In addition to professional courses, the General Officer is qualified on MBA, M Sc (Defence Studies), M Phil (Defence Studies), M Phil (Strategic Studies), PGDCA and Diploma in Labour Law and Human Rights. His wife, Anita, after a long teaching stint is currently pursuing other interests like interior decoration and Bonsai. She was the Teacher Coordinator of the winning team in the Global Space Settlement Design Competition in NASA, Florida and was awarded Punjab Govt Citation. Their two sons, Sahil and Samrat are MBA and are currently working in the Corporate Sector. Sahil is married and his wife Saloni is also MBA and in Corporate Sector.
