The Real Estate and Infrastructure Club at the Indian School of Business brings to you the 'Fourth Edition of the ISB Infrastructure Summit' on October 22, 2010. The Summit will host an array of knowledgeable speakers and intends to foster sincere and pragmatic discussions that will lead to better solutions for infrastructure development in India.
Infrastructure development in India has indeed come a long way since independence and particularly so in the last decade. For majority of our independent history, we somehow remained ignorant about the virtues of a good infrastructure system, then we started worrying about the lack thereof, the anxiety resulted in grand plans, and finally we are attempting to execute it en-masse.
India cannot do a China when it comes to execution but we are surely making progress despite the obstacles. We have moved on from building roads at a pace of 2 kms per day to 10 kms per day and pretty soon it will get to a significant 20 kms per day mark. However, on the other hand we have missed the targets set by the 11th Five-Year Plan in all sectors. The obstacles need to be negotiated as effectively and as quickly as possible in order to sustain and even speed up national growth. In that context it is imperative that we employ efficient business models and create an accountable and fair regulatory framework.
