ISL is the largest sports extravaganza across business schools in India played on the lines of the IPL format. It follows a franchise model where the bidders buy the team through team auction using real money and the players through a live player auction using virtual currency or bidding points. It is spread across 6-8 months and is perhaps the most spread out and inclusive event at ISB which encompasses students, employees at ISB and alumnus alike. Excitement, fun and passion both on and off the field can be felt in the campus during the ISL but given the money at stake and the sheer scale of the event, a lot of planning and strategy goes behind the scenes.
This year's ISL auctioning yielded a stupendous INR 30.1 lacs in Hyderabad campus and INR 17 lacs at Mohali campus. The winners will bag 60% and the runners up will get 30% of the cash collected as the prize money. 10% goes to ISL board every year for organizing the event. This sporting extravaganza will witness four teams, namely Hurricanes, Hyderabad Nizams, Raging Bulls and Team Titans, compete across 10 sports at the Hyderabad campus. Similarly, the Mohali campus will witness three teams, namely Mohali Mavericks, Punjab Hukums and Sultans fight for the coveted title. The sports played in ISL include team sports such as Cricket, Ultimate Frisbee, Football, Basketball and Volleyball; and individual sports like Table Tennis, Badminton, Squash, Tennis and Duathalon, a relay sport.
There is something for everyone here. Through this tournament, the team owners not only stand a chance to multiply their investment but also gain management experience. The players experience the ultimate rush of being a part of competitive sports while the organizers gain event management experience and above all ISL provides a great networking opportunity for everyone involved.
