Dear Reader,

The year 2006 has flown by for all of us, and like everyone, we at the ISB felt the year flash by, in the blink of an eye, it seemed. There were some moments that stood out bright, like the visit of Dr Manmohan Singh, the Prime Minister of India, and the visit of George Bush, the President of USA.

The ISB launched new Centres of Excellence, created history in placements, the faculty presented research papers and won international acclaim, the student numbers grew….it was a breathless run. In fact, the run began in 2001 with the launch of the ISB. It promised the moon or so it seemed then. Today, after completing five hectic years, the ISB has delivered more than it promised. Be it the successful redesigning of the traditional MBA with the influx of new management thinking through research, or the re-introduction of the value for high quality education amongst Indians, making that high quality accessible to every Indian, or attracting international talent, the ISB has made a definite mark. And what’s more, it is faculty, corporations, business leaders, country leaders, and the youth, that say so.

This issue of the ISBinsight carries a Cover Story on Leadership; it reflects the ISB’s commitment to quality, accessibility, and international reach. The values that the ISB espouses are true for leaders from all walks of life. We have presented what both professors and industry leaders have to say on the subject so that you can form a well informed opinion on what it takes to be a leader in today’s fast paced world.

Student conferences are a part of normal life for the ISB community, and this year was exceptionally busy with conferences and seminars, each outshining the other, in the kind of leading speakers they attracted. We have covered some of them in this issue and have placed the others on the ISB website, www.isb.edu. Some speakers presented passionate views (the Media Conclave) while others discussed cutting edge changes in industry (Healthcare Summit), there was no doubt that they were all enlightening in more ways than one, amply substantiating the learnings in the classroom.

I invite you to read and send us your feedback, and any suggestions that you may have through

Wishing you, your family, and your work, a great New Year ahead,
