MBA Study Group from Germany gets the ‘India Experience’ at the ISB |
A group of MBA students from the Paderborn School of Business, FHDW, Germany, were at the India School of Business (ISB) during a study tour. They were accompanied by Professor Udo Dierk, Head of the International Centre for Management Learning, Paderborn School of Business.
The group was a combination of students with work experience in varied sectors - SAP consultant, HR, IT, Marketing, Service traction, etc. While at the ISB they visited different software firms and multinational companies, to get a first hand knowledge about the Indian manufacturing sector, to learn about the concepts of Microfinance, and to get a feel of the legal business environment in India. This was supplemented with presentations and cases discussed with the group by the ISB faculty.
Participant Phillip Moller shared the group’s programme for the day, “We are going into the countryside to see how business functions in rural India, and to get a glimpse of the ‘Real India’.” His colleague Anja Remmet said, “I came to India expecting to see a vibrant, colourful place with signs of religion and elephants all over. Then we reached this campus, and I found there were actually no elephants here! This place is immensely impressive and hospitable, and we all felt so welcome. To add to that, the content of the lectures, and the company visits were truly enriching.”
Another participant Michael Wilking added, “We got to interact with the ISB students during the gala dinner, and many times at the dining hall. I personally found them so easy to communicate with, and we often shared views on issues of international importance.”
Fellow student Sebastian Korber found the services and the surroundings at ISB quite contrary to his expectations – it just superseded them. “I have noticed that the ISB students really enjoy being in such an environment,” he said.
Alf Keogh was particularly impressed with the session on Microfinance, “The theme of Microfinance is not something we are used to in our business environment and thus was interesting to learn about,” he noted.
Professor Dierk summed up the group’s experience, “ One thing that I gathered, whether it be the students at the ISB or the firms we visited, they are all dynamic, initiative taking, and carry a passion to take ahead their country, and participate actively in developing their country.”
The tour was facilitated by the Co-Curricular Activities (CCA) at the ISB, and is the sixth successful study tour organised by CCA for this academic year.
