Prahlad Kakkar

Mr Kakkar founded Genesis Film Production Pvt. Ltd. in 1977 and virtually invented television advertising, after having assisted Shyam Benegal, one of India’s most renowned film makers. “To tell a story in 30 seconds in the most engaging way possible” remains Mr Kakkar’s raison d’etre for remaining passionate about ad film making even 25 years later. Through the years, corporations like Nestle, PepsiCo, Britannia, and Levers have continued to communicate their brand stories through Mr Kakkar.

Making films that capture the dreams and aspirations of his vast target audience, Mr Kakkar has ruled the ad film making business. He was awarded the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to Advertising and Film Art by IAAFA and several other awards for technical excellence, innovation and creativity in the advertising business in India. Mr Kakkar’s aesthetic sensibilities have found shape and form in the hundred of films done over a career that spans over twenty years. His impeccable story-telling has always been supported by an international level – Production Design.

Mr Kakkar is a man of many interests. He is a connoisseur of cigars and fine food and is associated with a variety of diverse restaurants in Mumbai. His other passions include scuba diving and the Reef Watch Marine Conservation’s coral reef protection.
