Centre for Innovation & Entrepreneurship (CIE) at ISB
The current edition of Alma Matters focuses on the ISB's Centre for Innovation & Entrepreneurship (CIE). The RCI in focus aims
to foster a vibrant ecosystem for the creation and growth of enterprises.

Three overarching objectives of the centre are:
  • To create and disseminate research-based knowledge in the area of innovation and entrepreneurship that influences education,
    practice and policy for the emerging markets.
  • To utilise the knowledge and expertise to engage with business, government and society, and to contribute and promote entrepreneurial
    approaches to address socio-economic challenges of emerging markets.
  • To support entrepreneurial creation and growth aspirations in key sectors including technology commercialization in collaboration with
    internal and external partners.

In the first cohort of JSE, we supported 5 startups developing disruptive technologies to create social impact in diverse sectors.
After 4 - 6 months of customized business support and mentorship, the startups presented their final pitches to 200+ industry experts, investors and clients in June 2017. 
The second year of the JSE program was launched in October 2017 on the theme “Using (Leveraging) technology for social impact”. Roadshows were held in Guwahati, Mumbai, Bangalore and Hyderabad. The application evaluations are currently ongoing and 15 startups would be selected for providing 6 months of mentorship and business support in 2018. READ MORE


ISB Envision
In partnership with U.S. Consulate General Hyderabad, the ISB Envision accelerator was launched to support 6 startups working specifically in the areas of smart cities, climate change, education and women empowerment. Over a period of 4 months, the startups were provided access to hands-on capacity building, business support and mentorship. In June 2017, a Demo day was held where the startups presented their final pitches to 200+ industry experts, investors and clients. READ MORE


AIM Smart City Accelerator by ISB, Ashoka University and Microsoft 
The second cohort of the AIM Smart City Accelerator - a partnership between ISB, Ashoka University and Microsoft - selected 8 innovative and committed early-stage startups with unique solutions focused on building a smarter and sustainable India in 2017. ISB supported two contact classes held in Delhi and Bangalore and also hosted the final contact classes in Hyderabad in November 2017 where the startups were provided capacity building on marketing, communications and fundraising. READ MORE

Smart Streets Lab with Telangana Government and WRI

 ISB-DLabs supported the Government of Telangana and WRI India for Smart Streets Lab –Telangana to pilot innovative road safety solutions to transform India’s streets. Two rounds of stakeholder consultations were held with stakeholders such as GHMC, Traffic Department, Law and Order Department, IT Department, Government of Telangana to establish potential partnerships for the execution of pilots. After the application round, two pilots (on mapping road quality and safety) were finalised in partnership with stakeholders which were executed in the Cyberabad region during October - November 2017.   

Incubation program for ISB Alumni

In June 2017, the dedicated space for DLabs was launched by Shri Jayesh Ranjan (IT Secretary, Telangana) and Shri H K Mittal (Member Secretary, Department of Science and Technology).
This incubation program exclusively for alumni aims to support the ISB entrepreneurial community to leverage the networks, infrastructure and connects to rapidly scale up. The incubation facilities of Dlabs at the Hyderabad Campus is sector agnostic.
After an application process, 11 startups have been selected for incubation for the year 2017-18 by providing state-of-the-art incubation space for entrepreneurs to interact, engage and collaborate with mentors, investors and academia.

Clean Energy Lab in partnership with Shakti Foundation

The Clean Energy Lab – an initiative by Indian School of Business and Shakti Foundation – is a first-of-its kind effort to support non-profit organisations working on using research to create policy impact in clean energy. Through the Lab, five Fellows would be selected and incubated for a period of 1 year to develop their idea into a scalable institution by providing infrastructure support, financial and fundraising support, capacity building and mentorship. 25+ industry experts and non-profit leaders provided inputs in designing the Clean Energy Lab before and during the inception roundtable held in New Delhi in August 2017. After the application round, 7 Finalists have been selected to attend the selection bootcamp in January 2018 to be held in Hyderabad.


ISB Angel Network: Startup Pitch and Investor Connect

On December 22, 2017, Dlabs hosted the launch meeting of the ISB Angel Network which brought together aspiring and
seasoned investors from the ISB community.

Ten Startups at investment ready and MVP stages pitched for raising investments as well as for seeking feedback and
mentorship for their ventures.

Road To GES Events

Co-Host for Get In the Ring

On sidelines of the Global Entrepreneurship Summit, on 27th November 2017, Shri K T Rama Rao, Hon’ble IT Minister and Shri Jayesh Ranjan, IT Secretary launched the Road To GES Event co-hosted by Indian School of Business and Get in The Ring.
More than 100 startups competed for 6 coveted spots to pitch against each other in the ring to win a chance to go to Portugal for the global meet. 

Co-Host for FICCI Breakfast Meeting of Women Entrepreneurs

On November 29, 2017, ISB partnered with the Government of Telangana, NITI Aayog and FICCI to host the Breakfast Panel with Women Entrepreneurs on sidelines of the Global Entrepreneurship Summit.

With close to 200 attendees consisting of women entrepreneurs, leaders and academics from diverse backgrounds; the breakfast meeting served as an inspirational and empowering platform to learn, engage and network across the public and private sectors.





Network Capital Meetup on Social Entrepreneurship

On September 17, 2017, Dlabs partnered with Network Capital to host a meetup on social entrepreneurship which brought together 30+ technologists, entrepreneurs, academicians, digital marketers, design thinkers and innovation strategists.
