ELP and GCP
Experiential Learning Programme (ELP)
The Experiential Learning Programme (ELP) for the Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGP) allows students to work on real-world business issues. This gives them the chance to apply their learnings outside the classroom setting and gain new perspectives on business and major global issues.
- ELP projects enable students to integrate the concepts learnt in the core terms and apply the skills of consulting in developing industry-specific expertise.
- Teams of four to five students advise companies on strategic issues across 16 weeks.
- With guidance from a faculty advisor, PGP-Project director, and a corporate liaison, the student teams create unique recommendations to fulfill the organisational needs.
- Many companies use this programme as their pre-recruitment exercise.
As a part of the PGP curriculum, up to 250 ISB students may opt to work on such live projects. The student teams conclude the project by providing recommendations and presenting their findings to the company’s management. This is a credit course and is taken very seriously by the students.
The ELP has generated a tremendous response, including many projects which directly impact the bottom line. Last year, we had 70 projects covering the whole spectrum of businesses – from manufacturing, technology, consumer products, financial services, development sector, and the Government.
The areas of study of the ELP include:
- Market positioning and entry strategies
- New product development
- Developing growth strategies
- Talent management strategies
Further information about how to approach companies, form teams, and the final selection process will be presented at a special information session for students during Term 1.
Student Feedback on the ELP
“ELP helped me realise the market reality!”
“I spent over 20 minutes of my interview with Goldman Sachs discussing my student project. It really gave me something relevant to talk about.”
“Every company that interviewed me wanted to know about my student project. Trying to switch careers with my IT background, the ELP helped me differentiate myself from other students.”

Global Consulting Practicum (GCP)
The Wharton Global Consulting Practicum (WGCP) is a cross-functional, globally-oriented programme to educate PGP students about the problems of international business and equip them with consulting skills. It is an elective course for which, one can earn two course credits.
Students from Wharton and the ISB jointly help Indian companies enter the North American market or enhance their positions in the same.
- Each team comprises of ten students, five students from each school (ISB and Wharton), who are guided by faculty from both schools.
- A competitive process determines the selection of participants for this programme.
- The final number of projects, descriptions of each, and other details are released prior to team selection in early October.
- The programme may not be offered every year depending on a number of factors.
Established in 1978 at Wharton, the WGCP has benefited over 150 partner companies worldwide through sound recommendations, which have generated more than $400 million in incremental revenue. The ISB-WGCP has partnered with Mahindra & Mahindra, Max India, Satyam Computers, Medusind Solutions, and Apollo Hospital Group.
The WGCP is an excellent opportunity for students to apply the concepts, tools, and paradigms they have learnt in the classes to real business problems.
