Emerging India: Strategic Innovation in a Flat World
The Strategic Management Society (SMS) held a special conference in India, which was hosted by the Indian School of Business, Hyderabad, in academic partnership with several leading business schools and corporations in India. SMS is unique in bringing together the worlds of reflective practice and thoughtful scholarship, and today consists of more than 2,000 members who represent a wide range of backgrounds including academics, business, and consulting from more than fifty countries including India. In May 2007, SMS led a similar conference in Shanghai, China, which was well received by the scholars and executives in China and those overseas with specific interests in China. The India conference provided a similar platform in India to integrate strategy scholars and executives in India with their global counterparts to co-learn and co-create a greater enterprise.
In keeping with the strategic imperatives of contemporary global business, the India conference focussed on the challenge of being an innovative society in a global economy which is increasingly becoming flatter. Businesses in India, both domestic and foreign, have spearheaded outstanding innovations that are quickly redefining global industries, and have triggered a wave of social innovations that have brought down the divide of business and societal interests.
