The Toastmasters Club at the Indian School of Business (ISB) helps members to develop, practice and enhance their communication and leadership skills.
The club is affiliated to Toastmasters International, a non-profit organization, which is a world leader in communication and leadership development. The 270,000-member international organization, spread across the world in the form of more than 13,000 clubs, embraces the motto "Where Leaders Are Made". The ISB Toastmasters Club was initiated in 2008 to further this vision of grooming future leaders by improving their communication, public speaking and leadership skills. Today, the club proudly boasts over 80 members comprising students and staff members. It is the only club at ISB which is affiliated to an organization outside the school.
The Toastmasters Club follows the hierarchy shown above. The club at ISB operates in close conjunction with those in Microsoft and Infosys in Hyderabad.
The club offers its members a chance to don multiple hats, from that of speakers to evaluators and grammarians to masters of ceremonies, in order for them to equip themselves with a plethora of skills that will be indispensible to them as leaders of the future. The club provides a highly supportive and encouraging environment for members to overcome their inhibitions and develop their communication and leadership skills.
It allows the members to grow in two tracks, the Communication Track and the Leadership Track. The former allows one to enhance one’s oration and the latter to accentuate one’s personality and speaking skills to be a good leader. There are multiple stages of achievement in these tracks and both finally converge to the level of a District Toastmaster.
The ISB Toastmasters Club has received multiple recognitions such as the “Smedley Award,” the “President’s Distinguished Award” and has established itself as one of the most prolific club in the area. In the year 2010-2011, the ISB Toastmasters Club was awarded the “Best Club in the World” by Toastmasters International and felicitated with the highly-coveted “Golden Gavel Award”.
