About the Competition
Metamorphosis is a competition with a difference. It offers student teams from leading Indian business schools a unique opportunity to help innovators, creating technologies indigenously, evaluate the commercial potential of their innovations by answering the questions:
-
Are there opportunities in the market that the innovator(s) can develop applications for, using this technology?
-
What is the business model that the entrepreneur should adopt to effectively exploit the opportunities identified?
Teams will thus participate in the process of leveraging indigenous technology to create visible economic and social impact.
What is expected of participants?
Participants will:
-
Identify comparable technologies / products and assess the relative strengths and weaknesses
-
Identify markets that the innovator can develop applications for and profitably target
-
Identify segments within each of those markets that can be focused on
-
Estimate the size of these markets and segments in India and globally too
-
Assess the likely competition in the markets / segments to be targeted
-
Identify key factors that determine success in these segments / markets
Based on this analysis, participants will answer the questions posed.
If the participants conclude that the technology / product cannot be utilised to exploit opportunities identified, then they will:
-
Clearly indicate the basis on which they arrived at such a conclusion
-
Suggest a broad technology roadmap that the innovator must follow to ensure that the refined technology can be applied profitably to exploit opportunities in the market
Technologies / Products for which plans are to be written
A number of Indian innovators have developed technologies with support from the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) of the Government of India under its Technopreneur Promotion Programme (TePP). Participants are required to identify applications and develop a viable business model to exploit opportunities arising from one of ten such technologies developed by innovators under the TePP scheme. Participants will be provided online access to a one-page write-up on the technology/product. They will also have mail access to a resource person from the Ministry who will clarify their queries.

Metamorphosis will invite student teams from the 20 top management institutions of India to participate in the competition. Each team can have a maximum of three members. All team members must be currently studying in a management programme at the same institution. Each participant can be part of only one team. There are no restrictions on the number of teams that can participate from each institution.
