The first TiE – ISB Connect forum was held on July 28, 2005 with 500 participants, including several VCs, academics and entrepreneurs. The response to the Business Plan Showcase and Elevator Pitch events was overwhelming with about 100 executive summaries being submitted. The review committee chose 14 Business Plans and 18 write-ups for the Elevator Pitch event to present before the VC panel.
The event was formally inaugurated by the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy and Mr Ramalinga Raju, Chairman, Satyam Computer Services Ltd., delivered the keynote address. While Dean M.R. Rao of the ISB stressed on the importance of industry-academia linkage in his address, Professor S Venkataraman of Darden Business School and Visiting Professor, ISB highlighted the role entrepreneurship education plays in developing entrepreneurship.
An eminent set of VCs and entrepreneurs served as panellists in the discussions held as part of the event. Mr Srini Raju of i Labs, Mr Kumar Shrilagi of Intel Capital, Mr Raju Reddy of Sierra Atlantic, Mr Sandeep Singhal of Westbridge Capital Partners, Mr Anil Nori of Microsoft, Mr Sudheer Koneru of SumTotal, and Mr Sarath Naru of APIDC Venture Capita shared their valuable insights on entrepreneurship.
The event ended with a videoconference with Mr Desh Deshpande of Sycamore Networks who talked about the immense investment potential that India held for VCs. His sentiments were echoed by Mr. Sateesh Andra, CEO of Euclid who said that the involvement of VCs also helps in building sales and extending marketing support.
