Course Overview:
The course will explore the impact of IT-enabled markets and investigate what has changed and what remains a constant. Different market mechanisms which have been made possible because of the advances in IT and Telecommunications and the consequences of declining costs of supporting richer media types will also be examined. In particular, the impact of electronic price discovery mechanisms on market outcomes will be studied.
Course Objectives:
- Learn how IT enables new strategies and defines new markets
- Understand the functioning of hybrid markets where firms use a combination of electronic and traditional channels
- Analyse BPOs, third party eCommerce enablers and the role of infomediaries and information sharing alliances
- Learn how information-based strategies can be formulated for syndication between firms
- Explore the ways inter-organisational information systems and deep linking creates new and more efficient markets.
