National Training Programme on Pedagogies for Entrepreneurship Teaching

The first major event was a national programme on ‘Case method in Entrepreneurship Teaching’. The programme was co-sponsored by the National Science and Technology Entrepreneurship Development Board (NSTEDB) of the Department of Science and Technology, and the ISB. There was an overwhelming response to the programme, with educators from about 50 management and technology institutions from across the country registering as participants.

Professor Malcolm Harper, Professor Emeritus of Entrepreneurship at Cranfield, UK, inaugurated the programme. In his keynote address, he shared his experiences in teaching entrepreneurship, and discussed the use of the case method in teaching this discipline. The technical sessions began with Professor Ramachandran, Head – WCED at the ISB, delineating the various pedagogical choices available to entrepreneurship educators. Then, two seasoned educators, Professor Phanish Puranam from the London Business School and Professor Sougata Ray from the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Calcutta, demonstrated the use of case method, by taking participants through two different case discussions.

In the session on innovations in entrepreneurship teaching, Professor Seenu Srinivasan from Stanford talked to participants about a unique course taught by him called “Integrated Design for Marketability & Manufacturing”, wherein teams of engineering and management students developed a real product for the market. The day ended with Professor Venkataraman from Darden, University of Virginia, sharing his experiences and outlining some dos and don’ts for case teachers to follow.

The conference ended with a valedictory address by the Deputy Dean, ISB, who wished the SEE movement the very best in its endeavour to foster the spirit of entrepreneurship in the country.
