About Us

In early 2003, an initial brainstorming meeting was held in Mumbai to formulate action plans for the Centre for Analytical Finance. The heads of India’s most important financial services firms, including HDFC, ICICI and SBI and the Deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank of India attended the meeting. Professor Raghuram Rajan (ISB and University of Chicago) represented the ISB. The concept note for the centre drawn up at the meeting defined the proposed objectives, activities and structure of the centre.
Dr. Sankar De was recruited after an extensive international search, from Haas School of Business, University of California, Berkeley, to set up and head the centre. The centre started functioning in July 2004 and its first activity was a finance research conference in August 2004. Finance scholars from both Indian and U.S. universities attended this conference.
