I am a journalist and researcher working on the effects of social and economic policies on working class and rural communities. I am curious about the politics and economics of inequality, and everything people do to reduce it.

I have reported for two of India’s national dailies, The Hindu(2012-2015), and The Indian Express(2005-2007), and as a multimedia journalist for the news portal Scroll.in. As an independent journalist, I have published in news outlets including The Guardian, Al Jazeera, Caravan, Huffpost, Wire, and in Newslaundry reporting on the 2019 national elections.

My book chapter on effects of India’s biometric ID Aadhaar on rural communities was published in “Dissent on Aadhaar: Big Data Meets Big Brother” in 2019, in Lives of Data: Essays on Computational Cultures from India in 2020 (here); working papers in research publication State of Working India on mine workers here, and more recently, on how migrants to cities and industrial areas around Delhi view their work, how this has changed in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, and the transitions in their work and workplaces here.
