PK joined Tata Steel in January 2015 as the Company Secretary and Compliance Officer. In January 2019, he was re-designated as the Company Secretary and Chief Legal Officer (Corporate and Compliance). Effective September 1, 2024, PK serves as the Company Secretary and Chief Legal Officer of Tata Steel.
PK’s most significant responsibilities include advising the Board on Governance and ensuring that the Members of the Board are ably equipped with resources to discharge their fiduciary duties and corporate governance practices. PK is also responsible for overseeing and managing the regulatory compliance matters for Tata Steel.
As Chief Legal Officer he is responsible for the legal requirements of the company in the areas of Anti-trust, Corporate Actions, New Ventures, Mining, Environment, Land, Contracting, Commercial (Procurement and Marketing & Sales), Industrial Disputes, Labor Matters and Litigation relating to the above areas.
He also has oversight responsibility of the Legal, Compliance and governance matters of Tata Steel’s Investment in Subsidiaries, Joint Ventures and Associate Companies in India and Overseas.
Prior to joining the Tata Group, PK served as the Corporate Secretary and Chief Risk & Compliance Officer of Infosys. At Infosys, PK was responsible for the Governance, Risk and Compliance function (including compliance with SEC Rules and Regulations).
PK serves as Member of the Confederation of Indian Industry National Committee on Regulatory Affairs.’ PK also serves as Member of SEBI Advisory Committee on Listing Obligations and Disclosures, and as Member of the Industry Standards Forum for Business Responsibility and Sustainability Reporting.
PK holds a Master of Accounting Degree from the University of Cambridge, Master of Laws (LL.M) Degree from Stanford University, Master of Business Administration (MBA) Degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (Sloan), Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) Degree from Bangalore University, Bachelor of Commerce (Hons.) Degree from Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning and is an Associate Member of the Institute of Company Secretaries of India.
PK is passionate on researching contemporary governance matters. He is currently a doctoral candidate at The University of Michigan Law School, Ann Arbor. His area of research is Corporate Law and Corporate Governance.
