Call for Papers
Centre for Analytical Finance, Indian School of Business, Hyderabad Campus

The Centre for Analytical Finance at the Indian School of Business (ISB), Hyderabad, India, invites submissions for its annual flagship Summer Research Conference in Finance. The conference is scheduled from July 26, 2023 to July 28, 2023. Just like before, the conference will focus on "Recent Advances in Finance."

We invite papers from all areas of Finance. Both theoretical and empirical papers are welcome. Fresh papers or papers with new ideas, concepts, or methods will be preferred.
 
Paper Selection
We tentatively aim to have eight papers in this year's program. Presenters can expect quality discussants, an active audience, and informal interactions with participants.

Funding

For presenters and discussants, we will provide a travel grant and cover local transfers, conference stay, and meals. We warmly welcome other conference participants. We hope that you can pay for travel to and from Hyderabad from your research budget or from sources such as CIBER.

Best Paper Award
CAF confers the best paper award, which consists of cash prize of USD 5,000 and a certificate of merit. The best paper award committee is headed by the keynote speaker. The opinion expressed by audience through an audience poll will be considered by the committee.

Best Discussant Award
CAF also confers the best discussant award to appreciate the scholarly feedback provided by the discussant. The award consists cash prize of USD 2,000 and a certificate of merit. The best discussant award committee is headed by the keynote speaker. The opinion expressed by audience through an audience poll will be considered by the committee.

About CAF and ISB

Center for Analytical Finance (CAF) is a research centre in ISB dedicated to research in all areas of finance. CAF houses researchers and data sets and its researchers are drawn from the top institutions around the world.

Indian School of Business (ISB) is a self-contained 260-acre campus with character. The campus architecture embraces boulders and rock formations typical of Hyderabad, and merges them with trees, landscaping, greenery, and graceful buildings with state of art infrastructure.

About Hyderabad

The city of Hyderabad is in Telangana, India, at an elevation of 1,755 feet. It is relatively pleasant in July with average temperatures around 75F. Hyderabad is well connected to all cities in India by air and rail. Hyderabad's international airport has won awards for design and functionality. The airport is connected to the city with a brand new 8-lane road that runs virtually all the way to the ISB campus.

Keynote Speaker 2023

   

Manju Puri

J. B. Fuqua Professor of Finance

Manju Puri is the J. B. Fuqua Professor of Finance at the Fuqua School of Business, Duke University. She was earlier Associate Professor of Finance at Stanford Business School, which she joined after earning her Ph.D in finance at New York University and MBA from the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad.

Professor Puri has expertise in the field of empirical corporate finance and financial intermediation. Her published work spans the areas of commercial banks, investment banks, venture capital, entrepreneurship, behavioral finance, and FinTech. Her research has appeared in publications such as American Economic Review, Journal of Finance, Journal of Financial Economics, and Review of Financial Studies. She has been the recipient of the Sloan Research Fellowship as well as multiple awards from the National Science Foundation. Her publication record includes over 30 refereed papers in the top finance and economic journals. Her research has won many awards including four best paper awards at the FMA Annual Meetings, two Western Finance Association best paper awards, an All-Star award from Journal of Financial Economics, the Brennan best paper award at the Review of Financial Studies, and three Fama-DFA /Jenson best paper awards in the Journal of Financial Economics. 

Professor Puri serves as Editor of Review of Financial Studies. She earlier served as Editor of the Journal of Financial Intermediation, as well as on the editorial boards of several journals including Journal of Finance, Journal of Money, Credit and Banking, Journal of Empirical Finance, Journal of Financial Research, and Journal of Financial Services Research.   Professor Puri’s professional leadership roles include serving as Chair of the Academic Female Finance Committee (AFFECT), AFA, as a Director of the American Finance Association (AFA), and Vice-President of the Western Finance Association.  She has served as the President of the Financial Intermediation Research Society and as Director of the Financial Management Association. She is a senior academic fellow at the Asia Bureau of Finance and Economic Research and a Research Associate with the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER).

Prof. Puri has worked with multiple regulatory authorities serving on the Financial Advisory Roundtable, Federal Reserve Bank of New York and on the Model Validation Council, Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System. She has also served on the Bose Committee on the commission structure of financial product distributors for the Government of India, and on the Advisory Board of CAFRAL, Reserve Bank of India. She currently serves on the International Association of Deposit Insurers (IADI) Advisory Panel, Basel, and as Senior Advisor, Center for Financial Research, Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), and on the Advisory Panel of the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) Basel.

She has mentored a number of Ph.D students who have been placed at the leading schools and institutions including Board of Governors, Columbia, Cornell, McKinsey, MIT, Purdue, and Yale University.
