Dr Vijay Kumar Saraswat is India's one of the most gifted scientists and an accomplished researcher. His experience spans over four decades, in several areas of basic and applied sciences of defence research. He is a rare combination of a scientist, innovator, technologist and visionary. He is the recipient of many national and international awards including the prestigious Padmabhushan. 
Dr Saraswat is also currently the Chancellor of Jawaharlal Nehru University.
A PhD in combustion engineering, Saraswat played a significant role in the development of India’s first liquid propulsion engine - Devil. He is also credited with the development of other rocket engines such as Prithvi, Dhanush and Prahaar.
